"Sorry Z06, the 2017 Grand Sport Is the Best Corvette You Can Buy"
#41
"Best" really depends on what you want. "Most Popular" would have been a better title since the GS is now the most popular trim. The Z51 was the most popular trim prior to the 17 GS. The GS took the body features of the Z06 along with the mechanical features of the Z51. Chevy knows what they are doing to keep people interested and buying.

Look, the C7 comes in 3 versions aimed to appeal to the vast majority of potential buyers.
Stingray = for the guy or gal who is primarily interested in style over performance.
GS = for those who want an NA and loves great fun thru the twisties.
Z06 = for dudes who want the biggest and baddest.
Of course, these are just short & sweet descriptions and YMMV.

I think the title of this thread is the problem.
Maybe it would be less offensive to Z06 Owners if it read the Grand Sport is A lot of car for the money.
As for my car is better than your car. The same will be said to Z06 owners when the ZR1 comes out. And then Ferrari guys will talk about ZR1 guys and then Bugatti guys will say the same about Ferrari owners and so on and so on.
Just be happy with what you have. Most of the World can't even afford a vehicle.

I'm not saying everyone should like what I like. I was simply stating my reasoning for choosing the trim level I wanted. That's why I started my post with "For me it came down to this"

GS best corvette you can buy, i think not. The best corvette you can buy is the one that fits your needs. Fortunately, Chevrolet has given us corvette buyers enough choice that everyone can get the best corvette

I am in the camp that instead of arguing about which is better, pick the one you love and just enjoy it.

It's only one writer's opinion but still worth a read.

I paid $47K for my barely used Z51 and it is so much performance for the money.

In the cookie cutter, politically correct, sheep society we live in today maybe
Other than that it is complete garbage...
There are many different configurations of Corvette available.
Any one configuration can be the best for anyone person.
People trade up and down in Corvettes all the time for that exact
reason

Now I consider my ProStreet Rod with it's 8.2 liter BB, set back in a tubbed sedan chassis with a 4 bar link rear, 53% of the weight on the 420 section Mickey Thompsons, coilovers and disk brakes on all 4 corners -
hard core. It's great in a straight line but not for canyon carving!

I married a brunette. Ergo brunettes are the bestest. Ever.
Good grief. The need for validation of one's purchase decision runs strong in here.

Having just returned from Spring Mountain in Nevada, I can tell you every one of the instructors and the lead mechanic preferred the Grand Sport. All the ZO6 drivers were cautioned many times about laying in the power in the corners because it would break loose and spin out. While in the fastest race group while driving a Grand Sport I can tell you the
ZO6 was only a little bit faster-maybe 1 second. I could have purchased the ZO6 but I preferred the natural aspirated Grand Sport with no issues of overheating that we have read about. To me, the ZO6 has too much power for my style driving and I was never going to use that power. I have driven the ZO6 on a track and it is an incredible car, however I felt the rear end was not as planted and consistent with the excessive power. To each their own, both cars are incredible.

As a former Z51 and current GS owner that can afford a Z06, let's all be clear- the Z06/z07 is the most capable variant.
With that said, if I could never sell it, I would absolutely take a GS over a Z06 because mine is a daily driver that sees occasional track time. I don't want the extra power or weight or cooling on the track. It's awesome running the GS around not having to worry about engine oil temps and having less power. It's a lot more fun to drive a slower car haarder than a faster car slower. I enjoy my miata just as much, if not more than my GS. And being lighter is always awesome. I can't wait to drop nearly 100lbs of unsprung rotating mass with wheels, tires and rotors.
The z06 is a great car for two kinds of people: Those that want a true second car (or they drive very little it's their only car) and don't track OR those that are really fugging good drivers. Not kinda good. Not fastest guy in your track day good- we're talking some level of competitive racing where you were actually competitive.
It's my only car and I'm not fast enough to enjoy it; that's why I got the Grand Sport. Honestly, other than having DSC and forged wheels from the factory, I can't imagine how I could possibly love it more.
But yeah, calling it the best, when we're obviously comparing about capabilities of a sports car, is objectively wrong. Even if the GS is more fun, it's not "better" than the Z06 (ignoring cooling issues. cooling issues into play, there is a serious argument for the GS being better).

All of you are wrong. The best Corvette is a 1967 L88. Nothing more to add here, mods close this thread. You're welcome

must have been a pretty short tight track if all the extra power only yielded a "1 second" increase? or lack of talent behind the wheel..
