Are you talking about the storage in the floor, or the slit higher up on the side where the manual door release comes through?
You need to give more information or photo to get an accurate answer.

^^^ That's what it is... just a storage compartment. I keep my battery tender in there. Some owners store a small air compressor, jumper cables, etc.
