Default Tire rotation

Correct me if I'm wrong, the Michelin tires that came on my 2015 vette can be rotated side to side even though that causes them to spin in the opposite direction. Yes/no?

Yes, and a waste of time.

Yes, they can be rotated from side to side, but I wouldn't be so quick to say it's a waste of time. The PSS does have an asymmetrical tread pattern, so swapping sides could result in more even wear.

FWIW......

Never rotated tires on my C4s - 400K+ miles.... watched alignment and tire pressure
Never rotated tires on my C6 - 128K+ miles " " " " "
Never rotated tires on my C7 - changed tires at 32K IIRC.... watched alignment and tire pressure..... now at 17K on current set of tires look good - had it on a lift for inspection last Saturday, 8/5/2017

Never a problem....

Changing sides can help reduce any feathering if not aligned right. Also will let you inspect the tire for uneven wear across the face.

I wouldn't expect a "problem" if you don't do it. I doubt anyone here has done a controlled test of doing it vs. not doing it. That would require about a 40K mile commitment and 2 sets of tires. However, since I switch my OEM PSS and the AS3+ sets every 6 months, I do it while I'm swapping out between seasons.

Who's to say you don't get extra wear out of a set of tires? I don't know the answer, and I don't think anyone else does either.

So nobody can prove that it helps unless you have a bad alignment, maybe. Like I said, waste of time.

The biggest benefit I can see with rotation is that you get to clean the insides of the wheels. Other than that really just something to kill time.

And no one can prove it doesn't help. Like I said, you can't say it's a waste of time or not, but it is recommended in the owner's manual.

Per the Owner's Manual:

Tire Rotation
The tires should be rotated every 12 000 km/7,500 mi. See Maintenance Schedule 0 307.
Tires are rotated to achieve uniform wear for all tires. The first rotation is the most important.

If you have a favorite high "g" exit ramp that is not offset with one where you are turning at high "g" force in the other direction it is important. If you live in a rural area, as I do, the road camber will also wear the tires unevenly so it's more important.

The "old days" rural that you should not rotate "steel belt" radials so they don't turn in the opposite direction is no longer an issue! Easy enough to do.

Just for clarification, also can be done on the GS...right?

This is news, I had not read the owner's manual and thought rotation wasn't done side to side; my first time with staggered tire/wheel sizes.

learn something every day here.

On the OEM MPSS ZP tires, yes, regardless of model. I can't vouch for the Cup tires.

Yep, I quote page 276 of the 2017 Owner's Manual you got with the car in post #10 (note, I use the PDF version as it's searchable, one word gets the answer! The printed manual will have it on a page number close to that. Suggest you download.)
It also shows a pic of how to rotate and it's only side to side-can't do it any other way!

There are tires that are directional that can't be rotated. These are not directional. But they must be mounted with the word "OUTSIDE" on the sidewall, visible on the outside! If mounting after a flat fix they must mount with that side "out." Look at your tire, you'll see it.

I've rotated my tires twice to date - 2014 - 20,500 miles. I notice very even wear, quieter and less noticeable tire hop after rotation, and I should easily get another 10K miles before replacement is necessary.

Alignment wear isn't the only wear that rotation compensates for. Depending on how much cornering you do the edges of the tires wear faster than the centers due to roll over. Even with moderate cornering speeds the tires tend to roll over some. Don't believe me take some white shoe polish to mark the edges of the tire and take it for normal drive around your area. Then check to see how much of the polish is worn off. If you normally make more right turns than left turns or Vice Versa the edges will wear differently and rotating will even that out.

Most street alignments are set to compensate for road crown and if you read the stock camber settings for the C7 the right front camber is specified as having -0.3 degrees of camber than the left front camber. Since steering pulls toward the side of the car with the most positive camber it will pull to the left to compensate for the natural pull to the right due to road crown. However, the right side tire is constantly seeing more negative camber than the left so why not rotate from side to side?
