QC in the paint shop was absent that day
It appears that the paint shop QC was not in when they painted my 2017 Grand Sport Convertible. I have had it now for almost two weeks, and today, I finally took a look at the trunk since I was planning on doing a mod to the inner trunk lid that to me looks unfinished. Even my wife's Sonata has a nice fitted molded piece on the inner side of the trunk lid. So with the trunk closed, no issue. I never saw a paint defect. But open the trunk and take a good look at the edge, and there it was a three inch section that for some reason never was painted, and NO ONE caught it. Please see Picture #1. So then i said..........Do I bring it to the dealer?? I decided not to, and prepared to fix the unpainted section myself, since I did a lot of custom painting in the engine compartment, I figured I'd give it a try. So to anyone who has an Artic White car, for and sees a little section like mine on the trunk lid, for some reason, Rust-Oleum Appliance epoxy in white was a perfect match to the cars color. So picture # 2 is the paint repair completed.

It's been this way since day one. Mine was built in October of 2013, there are paint issue every where. Runs, unsprayed sections...meh.
Heck I went to the local dealer to check out a Black rose GS last month and the damn thing looked like a rush job.
As a long standing Union member myself, IBEW, I am not one bit surprised by this being such an issue

Nice job with the fix!

My car must have been a Monday build, and everyone was too tired and hung-over to do a lousy job, because I have no complaints with the paint quality.

I've been to the factory and watched the inspection team. It is hard for me to see how any malfunction gets through that process. However, I did not see anyone inspecting the trunk. Everything else was crazy through. Water leak tests on verts is amazing.

My car had the exact same issue, but I just rubbed the black paint off. I took it to the dealer and showed them, and he is the one that showed me it just comes off rather easily. It is black overspray from underneath.

Our Sept 2016 Long Beach Red has no thin spots, runs, etc.
But it has enough orange peel to make a citrus farm.

Our 2006 and 2009 C6 were much better on the vertical surfaces.
All were/are ok on the horizontals.

As for the lumps and waves, that's the plastic body panels, not the paint.
