I'm a new to the Corvette brand, just bought a C7 GS Artic White, Red Seats. Proud to have joined the club.
I actually was lined up to get the 718 Cayman but switched at the last minute and very happy I did so. After I actually got an opportunity to drive the Corvette, (had to rent one to be able to drive it). I found the C7 to feel like a more solid car, the 718 felt more like a go-cart to me. The C7 has a nice rumbly exhaust note, the 718 more of a rattle. The C7 comes with standard items, that would be about $20k of options in the 718, if even available. On the C7 you can tinker with the engine if you feel so inclined, the 718 it's a lot more difficult given you have to get under the car. I suspect the 718 on the track would probably do over the C7, given it is more nimble with the turbo, but for fun spirited driving on the street, the C7 was the best car for me.
Welcome! Great cars and I think you will enjoy it!!
I agree. The 911 gives the C7 a run for its money but not the Cayman or even the Cayman S. C7 typically have the faster track time compared to Porsche, but the auto mags like the handling of the Porsche a bit better
The Cayman/Boxster has an access panel behind the seats that provides fairly good access to the engine. Still generally not as DIY-friendly as a front-engine car though.
I can only talk based on my 1st 2 weeks in my C7, but the only thing I can see lacking compared to the 718, is the transmission, the A8 is rather clunky at lower speeds compared to the seamless PDK. Everything else is streets ahead.

Agree. The PDK transmission is incredible. The Corvette auto isn't even close.

No argument there . . . the PDK is vastly superior in every way, and clearly the best "auto" on the market. However, I'm a manual guy.

I've driven the PDK, lots! (Years) wife's Boxster. If that's a phrase! Not impressed at all with it. In a regular 911, or Boxster it's not much better then a VW GTI! With the exception of the GT3, I found it to be boring! Non-viceral! Just a Auto! I bought my first manual car in about 30 years when I bought my 2017 ZO6 A8, I love it! It's viceral as all get out! I drive it in manual and love it. I have a 2015 Mustang GT manual and Hyundai Veloster Rally edition manual, I still love a manual, but I love my A8 ZO6. As I stated with the exception of the GT3, I would never buy a Porsche again. I've owned 3 new ones since 2009. 2010 911(manual) 2013 Boxster S(manual) 2011 Boxster(PDK) wife's car. I've driven the Cayman on a track, great in the curves, but just doesn't pull in the straights. Glad you got the vette. The Cayman will leave you wanting more.
I use to be active on Rennlist forums when I had my Porsches, there was a lot of complaints about how slow the PDK pulls. Go to rennlist and search PDK, you'll see what I mean. Also, there was a lot of respect for the ZO6 A8 from some on that forum.
really, so you're saying the the A8 found in the C7 is superior to the PDK found in all Porsches equipped with them?
I love my C7 but unlike a lot of people in here I'm not so naive to think that it's the best car on the planet.
With the exception of the GT3, I like the A8 in my ZO6 better then in the PDK's I've driven, and I've driven plenty of them. Funny thing is, on the Porsche forums the manual guys complain about the PDK! Some even have praised the A8 ZO6. Lol! I love the GT3, it's perhaps my favorite car besides my 2017 ZO6 A8, I just didn't want to spent $160,000 for one, but I admit the PDK in it feels viceral in the mid-range, but the ZO6 has it from the start.
From: Calgary, AB. There's a reason why white was the only color offered on every year Corvette. Proud Canadian German Jamaican!

Porsche arguably makes the best "DCT" in the world and to even compare the C7's A8 automatic to it is just plain ridiculous.

I challenge you to go to Rennlist forums and read it for yourself from the guys who own Porsches. You will find that vettes get a lot of respect on that site.
It's not all about track time and performance numbers for many enthusiasts. Lighter, smaller cars have certain advantages in terms of handling and feel that don't show up on paper. One of my favorite cars is a Lotus Elise. My C7 Z51 kills the Elise in every measurable performance category but the Elise, to me, is simply a more fun car to drive on a daily basis. Sometimes driving a slower car fast is really fun.
I am a manual guy. I actually was planning on buying a Cayman S but just did not love the Porsche manual. I did think the PDK was amazing and if I was going to get the Porsche I likely would have gotten the PDK. It's the best automatic out there by far in a car under $100K and I find it far superior to the A8 in the C7. Especially in automatic mode.
