On my way to pick up grt grandson from school (2 miles) I first noticed a very rough ride, like the road surface was much worse than usual. When I glanced at the speedometer only the digital version was there and the other gauges were gone also. In the upper right corner was an orange t/c over a tire symbol that was not on the symbols page in the manual, but I assume was traction control. The hud was visible but very faint. Tires were ok. As I left the school everything suddenly returned to normal except hud and the ride was back to normal. Anyone have any thoughts on this? 16 stingray, 7m, recently replaced z51 wheels thx
Likely an electronic glitch. I had one where the radio wouldn't work, AM, FM, Sirius/XM, nor chip in usb port. A shutdown and restart didn't fix it. However, after overnight shutdown it worked and hasn't happened again.
I've read many similar reports here on the forum since the C7 came out. Some problems fix themselves with a restart, some with an overnight rest. My guess is the electronics aren't quite as developed as GM wish it was.
On the other hand, a car is a very noisy machine, electronically speaking. 8 sparks happening thousands of times a second, alternator generating electromagnetic fields, etc. Transient voltage suppression, brown outs, and surges have to be taken into account. Lots of electronic filtering needed, using capacitors as part of the mix. Capacitors hold energy for extended periods kinda like a battery but much shorter time periods. Which is likely why a shutdown and restart don't always fix the problem. The capacitors need time to drain to a voltage near enough to 0 volts for the circuits to "forget" what state they're in.
I wouldn't worry about it unless it repeats itself.
I had a somewhat similar issue with my 2017 Z51 and it ended up being tied to the HMI module needing to be reset by the dealer. Took them a while to figure it out.
I had an issue where my stereo cut out complexly and the dash screen went blank rarely.
