Default Bad day cruising on Labor Day

Cruising down the freeway. Car in front of me runs over this piece of metal gadget, tosses it up in the air and it lands in my grill. $1800 to replace grill, repair dent in bumper and paint. Can't believe how filmsy the plastic grill is...

That's what you get for driving your Vette. Should of had it parked in the garage like so many others.

Wow, sickens me to see the damage. Did it pierce the radiator?

That is a heavy piece of metal and no regular car grill would stand up to it. Did it not damage the cooling stack in the process? From your photo it looks like it got stuck in the first heat exchanger.

Probably surprised the bike rider when he went to shift and realized his shifter was missing. Or, maybe the shifter came off a bike in an accident and was a remnant on the side of the road.

Flimsy or not, it does look like the grill stopped the debris from getting to the condenser core.
I am surprised it stayed in the grill and did not bounce up over the hood and break the windshield too... you were lucky.

Count your blessings. If that had hit your windshield it could have killed you or your passenger.

Bad luck but you cant expect any grill to survive that big chunk of metal at highway speeds...

That sucks. Looks like a Harley shifter from the 80"s. Not that you could give a flying f@(&.

If it had come through the grill and into the passenger compartment you'd have been thankful you were wearing knee pads.

I would be pissed also. Seems like this stuff happens more on the highways .Good luck with the repair.

No, no damage to the heat exchanger. It got stuck in the piece of plastic just to the right of heat exchanger, thank goodness.

Thankfully, there wasn't any further damage when hitting that object. Coulda been undercarriage, or tire damage that caused an accident at highway speeds.

Ouch, that's tough Tony. I'm happy it wasn't any worse. If you have the coverage your insurance may take care of the damage without any rise in your rates, hopefully.

When you get the bumper repaired have it covered in xpel.

would have loved to see the outcome if it were already covered that stuff is amazing.

keep the deductible low (u less you have pen fed loan they reimburse you for first two years). This way it keeps the pain to a minimum.

Please keep us updated on repairs!
