It is strange to me that they are not marked. My CTS-V and the wife's C6 are both stamped 1 & 2. IIRC, just grab one fob get in the car and start it. I *believe* at some point in the start up sequence, the DIC says, "Key 1 detected" or something like that...
Edit: It says, "You are Driver #1 (or Driver #2 using her key) for Memory Features". Comes up on the DIC as soon as you enter the car with the fob. My wife's fob (#2) has a girly key ring on it, mine does not...
Use your alternate FOB a few times and then go back to the primary. The first time or two you use the primary the FOB number will be displayed on the dash. You will then know which number the car thinks it is and you can mark it as such.

It won't do that on my 14! Quantify your answer to include the specific year.

It was a big source of confusion early on, as we all muddled about trying to figure a way to determine which fob was which, and then set all the memory functions.
There is a way. If you pull your key out from the bottom you will see a small hollowed out area with a very tiny 1 or 2 inside.
The numbers don't (necessarily) mean anything. Many have gotten two #1s or two #2, and think about it; it's on the key which is removable, not the fob. The fobs are numbered strictly by the order in which they were programmed.
Mine came with the numbers switched, which likely means that someone switched the keys before delivery. Probably some bored salesman.

I have a 1 and a 3. Fob still registers as a 1 or 2, so I suspect those numbers are not associated with the electronics in the fob...
I have three FOBs. Why is that? I'll tell ya.....A couple of days after owning the car my wife comes to me. "I can't find the thingy!" Well we looked and looked and looked. Gone. So I went down to the dealer and bought another. With the key, the FOB and reprogramming it cost $245. The week after she goes to her art school and the teacher there say's. "Did you loose this?" My wife says yes. The teacher said she found it in the drive way and held it there for her to give it to her at the next art class. THANKS A LOT!
I now keep the found one in the safe. You can't have too many FOBs is now my motto.

That's too funny And sad. You'd think the teacher would have called her.

I can't figure it out. Are the seats supposed to move to the FOB memorized position when you open the car door or do you have to push the desired button on the door? In other cars I have owned the seats move to the FOB memorized position when the door is opened. My 2016 Vette not so. What is the point of FOB 1 and FOB 2 then? I have watched every You Tube video on the subject. Very strange system.

Wife can't reach brake pedal as I have the seat go full back to exit. So, she holds in button #2 and the seat moves to her settings and then she starts the car.

OK, so nothing is supposed to happen when the car door is opened? Guess my car is doing what it was engineered to do. Thanks.
