With Chevy 24 hr roadside assistance on the first 60,000 miles and 5 years, do you folks think joining Triple A would be redundant? I was thinking to wait until the Chevy roadside assistance expires. Thanks.
Hey Joe. Happy Monday. I think it's probably redundant for roadside, but I/we use AAA for other things. I like to get their maps and trip planning guides even though GPS does a great job. It's easier for me to plan road trips with maps and then use GPS to guide us. They also have some discounts on hotels and other stuff that I use enough to come close enough to paying for the annual fee. Also, we have several cars and use the 'family plan', so it's pretty economical.
Chevy
Car Insurance Company
Extended Warranty Company
Given my experience with roadside assistance (not any of the above), it pretty much sucks. They take forever to show up and then don't have the right equipment to properly load the car.

I have road side assistance on my C7 from GM, insurance, and AAA. But I have 4 other vehicles that don't have OEM coverage and insurance coverage isn't nearly as good as AAA. Locally, I can call AAA and request a specific hauler company to come to my rescue. Very handy since my C4 has left me stranded 3 times due to an intermittent short in one injector. The driver knows how to lift my car properly and where I live. With the premium package you can even have someone else's car towed if you are stranded in it. I had my son's truck hauled once. I called them to unlock my company truck once when I had a moment of dumbass. Heck, my neighbor had her tractor towed by AAA. Told them it was her car, then when the truck pulled up and complained it wasn't covered she told him he could tow it and write it up as her car or drive off with nothing. He towed. Twice, coming and going.
I have three cars including the Corvette, both the wife and I also have AAA Plus which allows for extended towing. If I broke down with the Corvette my first call would be AAA or my cousin who owns a towing company!

GM gives minimal towing distance and only to the closest Chevy dealer regardless of where you live or keep the car. AAA Plus gives much a much longer range and takes it where you want it to go. I've tried using GM Roadside and it was a joke. I pay for and use AAA Plus. It's paid for itself a number of times.
F150 shredded the serpentine belt Monday at noon. Called AAA. tow truck was on scene at 1:25 pm and dropped my truck at the Ford service drive before 2. You don't need AAA much, but good to know they are there when you do.
During our return drive from our Wyoming road trip on Sunday the "check engine" light came on and the car went into "limp mode". So I called GM roadside assistance (after I talked with the OnStar folks). Their service is amazing. They arranged for a flatbed tow truck, and their Concierge Service booked us a hotel and arranged for a rental car to be delivered to the nearest GM dealership where the car was to be towed. All of which are free of charge under GM's Trip Interruption Policy/Warranty.
As it turned out my car did not need to be towed so I had GM cancel the tow truck, hotel, free rental car.
+1 for using GM above all others while under warranty.

Do you have to subscribe to OnStar or something additional to get roadside assistance or is it included with purchase of the car? I have a '17 Z06

Hi. Onstar isn't isn't involved. There is a phone number in the manual you should make a note of and put in your glove box. It is (800) 243-8872. It is good for 60,000 miles or 5 years.
I used it once when I had a flat tire and they were very responsive. I was out in the middle of Nowhere USA and truck was there in an hour. The driver and I decided I would just drive it home and then over to the dealership the next day. It was an 88 mile drive on the runflats at 55 mph.
I got stuck in BFE Kentucky with a flat on my pickemup truck while towing my racecar. Couldn't get the spare off the truck. Called Chevy roadside, and they literally never answered. I let it ring for several minutes, tried several times. Then called AAA.
And they, of course, were useless. But he did pump up the flat and let me follow him to a place that plugged the tire for me. They were more interested in the Corvette on the trailer than the truck, big surprise.
