I have a 2015 Z51, does it make sense to install a rear diffuser?

First, it already has a diffuser. If you mean an aftermarket diffuser, it will serve purely for looks unless you track your car at high (well above 100 mph) speeds. It will have no effect on downforce or handling at lower speeds. Whether it makes sense for the new look compared to the price is a question only you can answer.

^^^ I agree. It's generally an appearance mod. Any aerodynamic effects will be negligible.

If you do decide to go with one, I'd suggest WeaponX Motorsports. I have one on my 2015 Z51 and it has gotten plenty of aerodynamic use...

If you want to change the look yes, performance no.

The only somewhat functional diffuser is the difflow diffuser.

the other ones are entirely cosmetic even @ 120mph

The diffuser needs to be considerably lower to the ground or at least the fins/strakes.

You also need to flat bottom the underside of the car. It's fairly well covered from the factory but the area where the mufflers are and the xpipe is located are exposed a bit much.

The point of a diffuser is to accelerate the air from underneath the car. If the fins are too high and too wide they don't help the air escaping from under the car until it's already past the the point of usefulness.

If there are gaping holes under the car this creates turbulence and slows the air moving underneath.

For it to to be really functional you also need a remarkably large flat plane splitter that has at least 3" of surface area out from the front of the car that runs parallel to the track surface.

(GPspeed as a nice example of this, just too expensive for a consumable item for me)

For the conversation of performance reducing lift and producing downforce are two different things.

If you are driving on the street it makes no sense unless you want it there for aesthetics.
