Default Motion Sensor Alarm

I've never used the motion sensor alarm but soon will be on a long road trip and thought that it may be best to arm it in motel parking lots. However, if the thing is so sensitive that a gust of wind will set it off, disarming it in the middle of the night could get old not to mention disturbing others. Have others had more experience than me give me a few clues on this?

Unless you have pressed the button to not activate it every time you have parked your C7, it has been activated (unless your top was off/down). It arms automatically, you have to take action to prevent it from arming.

A gust of wind will not set it off (unless those gusts are from a hurricane).

Thank you. My car has lived in a garage every night and I've never turned on the motion alarm. Probably should just give the alarm a test in my garage.

Have you never locked your car? Every time you lock it, the alarm is set, unless you have been deactivating it every time you lock your car or have never locked your car.

Exterior motion shouldn't be a problem. My car's been outside when we've had 50mph+ gusts and it didn't go off. YMMV.

The only time the interior intrusion sensor has tripped on mine is when the windshield sunscreen shifts on a hot or really windy day.

Pretty sure the motion sensor resets to ON every power cycle. On my car, I switch it off sometimes. If I press the button the next day, it sure acts like it was on.

As near as I can tell, the motion sensor is set by a switch to either off or on. I've just left it off. I lock the car with the fob or just press the button on the door.

Park your car and walk away from it until you hear it lock. I have mine set to beep the horn when it locks. It will do that anywhere I get a few feet away from it even in my garage.

Then walk back and bounce the like you are checking for bad shock absorbers. It will start beeping. If you happen to leave the window open and reach into the car to toss a sheet of paper into the car it will start beeping. I left my car (with windows open) to walk around a little bit at a cars and coffee at the beginning of the month. The alarm went off, my cell phone got a text the alarm went off and there was a sheepish looking guy taking his hand out of the window. He was putting flyers on the seats of all the cars with open windows.

I haven't had it go off due to the wind blowing but it will go off if the car is moved just a little. Like when I lift it on my lift or start to trailer it away from the spot where I loaded it on the trailer.

To shut off the alarm all you need to do is push the unlock button and then relock it after the alarm shuts off. The Fob has a pretty good range and you might be able to control the locks from your hotel room if it is on the correct side of the building.

No, the motion sensor automatically goes on whenever you lock your car UNLESS you push the motion sensor button (next to the rear hatch release). Pushing that button only disables the motion sensor until the next time you start the car.

Intrusion and Inclination
Sensors Disable Switch

It is recommended that the intrusion
and inclination sensors be
deactivated if pets are left in the
vehicle or the vehicle is being
transported.

With the vehicle turned off, press (Off button)
on the right side of the hatch
release button. The indicator light
will come on momentarily, indicating
that these sensors have been
disabled for the next alarm system
arming cycle.

Let me put it this way, if you were laying down a coat of wax with a Orbital Polisher, the motion sensor will only go off if you are using an aggressive pad & compound and only when you are going at it heavy on the hood or roof. Hope that helps give you an idea of it's sensativity.,

So the default is for it to be on unless you disarm it. I've been using it all along and didn't realize it. Ignorance is bliss, I guess.

On a trip we took a ferry to cross onto a island about an hour away by boat. Never thought about the alarm, locked the doors and walked away. Started moving and the ferry rocking a bit and soon I started hearing a alarm go off. Used my FOB to unlock the doors, sound stopped (we were sitting one deck up just above it) , minute or so it went off again after I re-locked it. Sure enough it was picking up the motion of the boat. The boat locked you out of access to the car deck area during transit so I left it unlocked to keep the alarm from going off.

Funny. Had the car loaded on my trailer to head out to Carlisle last month. At 3:30am we hit the road. Quickly learned not to lock the doors on the vette when in motion. So did a couple of neighbors who quickly turned on their bedroom lights at 3:30am.

I learned about the alarm sensitivity when my Vette was parked on the public street and a Harley went by. The alarm is very sensitive!!

It is also fun to leave your passenger in the car while you pump gas. They move and the alarm goes off!

Now I "try" to remember to push the button...

If my wife is in the car when I pump gas, I just leave my door open.

You let your wife pump gas into your Vette?
