The GTR is a low production Supercar. As mentioned above they sell very few of them per year. Like an NSX or Ford GT. Comparing it to the C7 is apples and oranges.

Even though the Z06 can stack up against most of these cars in terms of performance and the track.

I think we'll see something like the following from GM, much like they did when the C7 was rolled out:

"If you can afford a C7 Grand Sport, you can afford the 2021 C8."

on the bright side, an increase in MSRP in new Vettes will cause used ones to be worth more....

Perhaps, but if they raise it too much, the Corvette will not survive.

I think new Corvette sales would tank if it would have a base price of $80k (in today's dollars) -- just not nearly as many buyers at that price level.

I truly think that GM will kill off the Corvette line if the price moves it into a position where it sells less than 10,000 units annually. In the past, GM has become extremely skittish and there's rumors of killing it off when annual sales volumes drop below even 20,000.

By far, I think the conventional wisdom of having a low-volume $120,000 ME being sold alongside a FME C8 that has a starting price of $65,000 makes the most sense. Capture both the traditional and the 'big wallet' markets.

I suspect that GM may make two models, one front-engine (C7) and one mid-engine, so that they can keep the pricing competitive.

They'll make it up in volume.
The Ford GT is $450,000.
The Acura NSX literally cannot get out of it's own way, sales wise.
So...I'm pretty certain those 2 cars are NOT targets.

I think people are reading way too much into rumors. I would be shocked if GM raised the C8 base price to even $65K (that's $10K more than now). Maybe to $59K for MSRP on a base model but at some point they will price themselves out of the market and buyers will flock to Mustang's and Camaro's for half the price and very similar performance.

I agree with others, no way the base price of a Corvette will jump that high. I highly doubt we will see a new generation in 2019 as it is.

Assuming it does go to $80K +, I'll be looking at a M3 or M4. Corvette is a bargain @ the $50-$60K price point. $80K starting price, no so much.
