Ok so just made an appointment to get the oil changed in our 16 with z51. I asked about getting the car play downloaded and was told it takes 4 or 5 hours !! is that for real ? I say that because I "thought ", I had seen where it only takes just a couple of hours.
They don't know for sure how long it will take. It is based as I understand it on how "slow" the GM server is at the time. My 16 got the Android Auto update during the dealer prep and my paperwork time to buy the car. So I can't say how long it actually took them, but it wasn't 4 or 5 hours.
Where are you taking it? All I know is this, Carplay sucks in my car. It is so full of bugs, its ridiculous. I've done all the updates too. Worked flawlessly in my Camaro, so go figure. Good luck Scott!!

This^^^^
The problem is that the local dealer has to "get in the queue" and compete with other dealers for download time slots. Also, any given download may fail its verification, which caused a re-download. If you're lucky you get a good download fast.
Forgive me, but what's the carplay update we're talking about? I also have a '16 z51 and I'd love to have carplay work more reliably. It works well on my aftermarket stereo in another car...
Should only take 2 hours or less if all goes perfectly. My dealers service dept had issues so ended up taking around 3 to 3.5 hours. Works great after that. like it a lot with Google Maps or WAZE. Dont use the music app as I have all my music on a USB.
Voice searches are super. Careful what you say though. I asked my wife if she wanted to drive through our town on the way home and she said ok if you go slow, and Google voice came back an said it couldn't find Go Slow. We laughed so hard I almost had to pull over.

Sorry, I was talking about the Android Auto update that is available for 2016 C7's. I have a 2016 Couple 1LT built on 01/16 that I bought used 2 months ago with 1400 miles on it. Excellent car....

Just download the Android Auto app and Waze from the Play store to your phone. When they are installed and updated, plug your phone and cable into one of the USB ports in the car. You may need to relink your phone to the car before connecting. The Android Auto app should start automatically and the projection icon should change on your cars screen to the Android Auto icon. Select this icon and you should be all set. Their are a few other threads on the forum here which will explain more about using Android Auto. Just search for Android Auto.... Good luck.
