Oil change message before 12 months??

Well I gave my dad a 2016 Z51 as a 60 year present. He only drives it on Sundays to go to the casino or just cruise around. I have told him to use it, but he prefers to look at it every day after work and put some quick detail every week. I do a full detail every time I am home (3-4 months).
We are planning to keep it, our next project is in 6 years get a C2. We want to have both later on. I know that many might say why not trade it or get a GS or Z06.
Well for us the C2 is a Stingray and our a C7 is a Stingray and not a GS or Z06.
Whatever makes him happy! I am the one that uses it every time I can when I am at home.

It's interesting to note that GM has been telling us to change the oil once per year regardless of miles, for a very long time.
But only in the C7 did they incorporate it into the OLI.
That suggests one of two things:
1. They really do think it's important,
or
2. They can save some money by denying warranty coverage for those who failed to comply.
Either way, I think it's good to follow the manual.
Since we drive 10k-15k miles/year, not an issue for us.

In the 60s they went from 2K miles/2 months to 3K miles/3 months. The 3K change requirement was in place well into the 80s. They didn't differentiate between vehicles driven or not driven. If the only miles you put on the car were driving to get the oil changed 4 times per year you were supposed to change the oil.

Perceived or real degradation of the oil filter element?
mine is almost 3k miles in 10 months. Says 12%.
