Default Got a Target Production Week

I got a Target Production Week of November 27. I was hoping it would be sooner. Any idea of when I might take delivery in Southern CA? Will it be painted in the new paint shop?

Thanks,

Rob

Depends on the color. Colors are being phased in for the new paint facility. Shipping to CA sometimes takes several weeks and cars go by rail I think. Hopefully it won't get caught up in QC. That can add several more weeks. Hopefully you will get it by Christmas but I am doubtful. Good luck.

This week and last, thanks to Mike Furman@Criswell, we are seeing GM formally announcing November 20th TPW's for new, second-batch 2018's, though as you have personally learned, and others also were informed by their dealers, some are stretching out as much as three weeks after that, e.g., as late as a December 11th TPW. With an expected 3 to 4 week BGA Production Quality Hold after assembly, and transporting by train to CA, you might be looking at mid-January, possibly even into February.

Unfortunately, as noted above, you are not alone with delayed, post-November 20th TPW's.

As to whether your car will be painted in the new shop, depends on your color, production sequencing and more, so doubt anyone can accurate say at this point in time in which shop your or any car (other than SO's) will be painted.

Don't know if they run different routes/trains to NorCal vs SoCal, but my 2018 was built 7/15/17 and came off the train in NorCal on 8/8/17.

When did you place your order? I placed mine on Sept 5th and was hoping to have my TPW by now, and was originally hopeful that it might be in the first couple of weeks of November. It certainly looks like the plant isn't going to be up and running on November 1st as promised. I wonder what the holdup is, the videos from the plant managers just a couple of weeks ago made it seem like they were still on target to open on time for early November.

It's black.

I thought the plant was supposed to go into production November 1? Do they have that many orders that mine was pushed to the end of the month for a "second batch"? I didn't hear a whole lot of buzz on the forum about people ordering them during the summer. It seemed that a lot of people were "waiting to see". I guess not; or they must be fulfilling all the dealer orders first. Getting my car a month later than expected is a major bummer. Thanks everyone.

Looks like it'll be painted in old OP paint shop, bummer.

Maybe that means it will be painted in the new shop.

Let's hope so! I did hear Torch Red was going to be one of the first colors to move to the new shop.

The first colors in the new paint shop are white and yellow. Sebring Orange could well be # 3. Torch Red is not ahead of at least white and yellow, perhaps not ahead of SO also.

As much as I hate saying this, the ordering process for Corvettes leaves a lot to be desired as opposed to many other makes. I ordered my 2018 ZO6 on May 20, it was built on July 10 and I took delivery on July 25. In the interim, my Dealer was great as far as updates, but GM not so much giving either the Dealer or myself any updates. I knew of the plant shutdown beforehand, and was told that mine would most likely be produced before the mid-June cutoff date, but I had to sweat it out until my Dealer called me on 4th of July weekend telling me of the TPW. As far as the paint issue, no clue here, but if it makes you feel better my Blade Silver is pretty flawless from the "old" paint shop, and I'm a pretty picky guy. Good luck and I'm sure you'll enjoy the car when you finally get it.

Thanks,

The production date for my black/spice red GS is supposed to be Nov. 20. Do you know if that's when they start picking parts...painting panels, etc...? How long before it may get out of production? Hope it gets the new paint shop also.
Any info for a nubee is appreciated.

I'm sorry I won't be able to help much. What I know is probably what you know. Perhaps someone else can chime in.

From my understanding the date you have is a TPW (Target Production Week) - not specific date. Nothing is set in stone. The car is built within a day and then it may sit for quality control or no other reason than waiting to be shipped. How long this is can be frustrating. We all want our cars shipped ASAP. I've read people getting their cars within a month of production and others have to wait months for delivery. As far as the new paint shop, those of us with early black car orders may not get the benefit of the new shop. However, no one knows for sure. My salesman told me that he will not know anything until the factory resumes production in November. My question is, will the factory actually start the first week of November?

I appreciate your reply. This will be my 1st Vette and I'm kinda antsy with the not knowing thing. More will come to light in the next couple of months.
Congrats to you for your new toy.

That's the question of the day and I have honestly been checking the forum almost on an hourly basis lately just hoping someone in the know would post more info on when the plant will actually open! It's looking more and more like no cars will be produced until November 20th at the earliest. Definitely unfortunate for those of us that have been waiting and hoping that our cars would be built before that point so that even with a 4 week hold it would still be possible for receiving the car just in time for Christmas.

Since I haven't heard anything from my salesman yet I'm going to assume there is no way I'm getting a November TPW date but now I think it would be cool if my car were built on my birthday which is December 8th!

I was hoping for a nice Christmas gift to myself. Not sure it's going to happen. But like it was said in the movie "Dumb & Dumber", "So you're telling me there's a chance!" Yeah, we are all chomping at the bit. Too bad someone from GM couldn't chime in and give us a rock solid date. Heck, they probably don't know either.

Part of me is wondering if this extra 3 week delay might mean that they are planning on surprising everyone by having the new paint shop fully operational right from the get go and not using the old one at all! I know I'm just dreaming and it's probably not going to happen, but I still find it curious as to why they didn't use all of this renovation time to make that transition complete. They did say that having both the old paint shop and the new paint shop running at the same time is very costly for them.

I've thought of that as well. GM is one of the biggest companies in the world and they have some smart people working there. I would like to think that they don't want to waste any time or money. It's all or nothing. Get the darn thing COMPLETELY up and running.
