Just received my build sheet and noticed a very strange entry. My car is an '18 Grand Sport in Watkins Glen Gray. On the build sheet the correct color code is noted (G7Q) under the Exterior Color but the color description is "SON OF A GU". What!?!? I assume if not abbreviated it might say Son of a Gun Gray (maybe?). Has anyone encountered this before? Are they having a little fun in the factory with their own names for the colors? Is there a rationale explanation for this?
Thanks in advance for any wisdom to resolve this question.
Been looking for a list and have been unsuccessful so far. I believe they are all humorous in nature and probably part of a factory insider joke kind of thing. I saw the name for one other color a few weeks ago, but damned if I can remember what it was.
You can search by make/model/year and get all of the factory codes. I can see why the marketing department chose against running "Switchblade Silver Metallic" or "Unripened Green Metallic" or even my color "Berlin Blue Metallic" for various reasons.

LOL Thanks much for the information and a good laugh. Yell O Tintcoat is another treasure. At least I now know the full factory name on the build sheet. I'm kinda liking Son of a Gun Gray Metallic over Watkins Glen Gray Metallic. I'm going to have fun with it - next show when someone asks about the color.......
Not all of the colors have a different factory name. For example, Artic White, Black, Velocity Yellow and Torch Red
Here's some of the others:
Blade Silver Metallic = Switchblade Silver Metallic
Crystal Red Tintcoat = Crystal Claret Tintcoat
Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic = Orange You Tempted Metallic
Laguna Blue Tintcoat = Blue My Mind Metallic
Limerock Green Metallic = Unripened Green Metallic
Night Race Blue Metallic = Berlin Blue Metallic
Shark Gray Metallic = Fusion Gray Metallic
Admiral Blue Metallic = Opulent Blue Metallic

The build sheet color code G7Q for my 2017 WGG is listed as "GUN GRAY". You must have one of the many sons.
The factory color names can go across GM models. They give them unique marketing names to make them seem different on a corvette versus a truck or a Caddy.

Saw Velocity Yellow referred to a Yell O Tintcoat. Love these names.

Yes sir re bob, that's what shows on my build sheet.
Long Beach Red $1000 on a Corvette
Siren Red $395 on all other GM vehicles
Further - Watkins Glen Gray is Nightfall Gray on all other GM vehicles
FWIW, understood that the reason for the Vette having a higher price for Tintcoat colors and why only a limited number of colors can have Tintcoat is related to the "old paint line" being time limited to match production.
It was described that the clear coating robots have to be cleaned before and after after spraying a tinted clear coat. That takes labor and materials plus costs time. If there were more tintcoat colors that would be a bottleneck in production.
Recall when I bought my C6, early in the Model year I wanted a particular color used the prior year. However they were introducing a Blue tintcoat and a previous tintcoat had to be dropped since only a fixed number could be tintcoat. In that GM press release it said they picked the color to drop based on which was "least affected." The color I wanted was still available but not in tintcoat and at no premium.
Since I could not be sure what it would look like, I got Velocity Yellow Tintcoat instead!
Assume with the new paint line there will be more tintcoat colors available and perhaps the premium reduced.
