New to forum so please forgive if this has been covered but couldn't find any threads.
Just bought a 2016 Z51and here's my delima.... How do you get the cargo area lights to turn off when using the battery tender and leave the hatch cracked to run wire?
I've used the same trickle charger for seven years. First a '10 GS, and now my '16 C7. '10 required I close the door. C7, I close the lid. No damage to the cord.
But, if you are uncomfortable with that, the light will go off.
Patience really does pay off. Finally found answer in owners manual. It's a battery protection feature. Any electrical that stays on will time out after ten minutes....

Yep, unlike some prior Vettes you can even leave a map light on and in less than 10 minutes it shuts off! I don't bother with a charger as it's a DD and have been on vacation for 2 1/2 weeks and car starts right up. If fully charged, the battery will still start the car after ~30 days! I would not push it that far but some have.

I close the hatch as well. Absolutely no damage to the cord, paint, or hatch seal.
Don't leave it open, the hatch is designed to allow you to close it while using the charger. No damage will occur to the car or the cord.
Right on, I have been closing either the hatch or the trunk (depending on what Vette I own) for many years ( started 05). That is for slack periods during our good weather and for more than six months over our LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG cold/winter season.
Here's a gift for anyone that has a crappy memory. I place this on my back window to remind me that the charger is connected. if you want this sign just grab the image to you desktop. Then print it out, I laminated mine to make it permanent.

Me too, and mines a vert.

I just use my finger to close the latch manually and then lower the hatch slowly so it’s slightly ajar. When I disconnect the cord I press the hatch release so the hatch can be closed.

I can't address the possible damage to the cord if the hatch/trunk is closed on the cord (no channel like the C6 door), but I can say I have left the trunk open for the last 3 1/2 years every day, and never had my car on a tender, and the open trunk light is a non issue.
