Hi Guys:
Do not have my car here at the moment anyone know how big the opening is when screen is down ? thanks much
Depth round about would be great also - back of compartment to front leading edge of retracted door - looking to see if I can put a din stereo in that area leaving door down - thanks

Here you go!
Width of opening you are showing is 6 7/8 inches
Height of opening you are showing is 4 1/8 inches
Depth inside you are showing is 5 1/8 inches
The physical (felt covered area) box dimensions are 6 3/8 inches wide, 4 1/4 inches high and 5 1/8 inches deep.
The box gets narrower as you go the back to about 6 1/8 wide at the back of the box and the height gets a little less to about 4 1/8 inches.
These may be off a 1/8 or 1/16 give or take.

Thank you much Buddy appreciate it
May just fit with felt removed - thought that front opening was larger than you stated din is 7" wide so its a bit small have to investigate it

The interior box is an irregular shape and actually slopes (curves)down from the top about two inches from the back making the height even less at the very back.
The usb port also sticks into the box about 1 1/2 inches and is about 1 1/2 inches square.
Not exactly sure what you are going to put in there, but you will only have about 3 1/4 inches depth because of the usb port on the left.

^^^ Thanks that would be removed including felt - fill the hole with Kenwood din multi format player - 7-3/16 x 4-3/8 x 6-1/2 inch
Just hope there is more room behind felt area - need bit more then the 6 1/2" for depth - rest is doable
Leave door down and let factory unit still talk to rest of car but use Kenwood for my stereo - cant stand the stock crap - installer will get it in and just set things up separate - bye bye Bose junk

This post has a picture of the dash taken apart.

Not sure putting a Kenwood aftermarket head unit would fit or where it would actually attach to.
Also the screen that you will have in the down position, has the vehicle configuration settings in there. If you do get it installed, post some pictures of it.

Huge thanks hard to tell how much depth I would have but very helpful - thinking if door is down it will still function - meaning we are not messing with all the systems talking to each other - well see wont be until next spring - if I have the depth the rest is easy

No need to access any of it make my basic adjustments and leave it down never use it other than radio portion - do not use other stuff not interested - guitar and drummer all I need is quality audio and whats in it is K-Mart and nobody can change my mind about that - complete garbage

Well, it's up to you. My worry would just be that one day I would want to change my steering feel or something inane and then wouldn't be able to.
Also, just something to think about, if the screen is down, it will automatically raise up when put into reverse if you have your backup camera turned on, so you'll want to either disable that option or do something with the actual mechanism.

Yes all good points buddy have driving mode where I like it and never change it - I like touring mode best - I think I will make sure it doesnt go back up as mentioned will have to find out if I can unpower that - maybe just the switch - biggest issue I can see is the depth no idea how much room is behind the felt and widebody conversion doesn't allow me to explore I have an audio shop that can do anything not a job for me thats for sure

You should still be able to change your display gauge mode via the steering wheel and driving mode using the dial on the center console. You'll just have to make sure you have things like passive locking, fob in car alarm, exit lights, automatic seat preferences, and things like that set EXACTLY how you want them.
For the screen I think you'd have to remove the power/data to the actual gearing mechanism, or remove the gears themselves to prevent it from rising/falling.
I'm guessing there won't be much room behind the felt. It's not plush or anything, so it's probably just felt on top of the metal/plastic enclosure. If you're stripping the inside of it though, you may be able to relocate the USB port that takes up a large chunk of the space.

I think you will probably find that there is NO space to the rear (and the felt is hardly very thick); that's why the "bin" is the size it is. Otherwise, it would have been natural to have used it for more bin space. But, good luck, in any event.
p.s.: I just went out and checked; every surface of the bin is VERY solid, as if the entire thing is one sturdy, molded piece.
