Default Getting fuel

Stupid question. When I am getting fuel, unless the car is on, the fuel gauge does not show up. If you just press the button without the brake, some interior stuff works, but not the fuel gauge. With the amount of times the pump usually stops during fueling, this would really help. Am I missing something?

I'd have to agree. Mine stops early often at a couple stations. Not sure if it's the amount of pressure they pump or what. Seems the backpressure builds quick.

It’s the design of the car. Something about the curvature or the secondary opening inside causes gas to backup and trigger the auto shutoff. It’s quite annoying.

Try pressing the “Start” button twice, with your foot off the brake pedal.

Press and hold the start engine button 10-15 seconds (do not press brake pedal when doing this) until the instrument cluster comes alive. All guages will work now.

Not sure if you should pump gas with the car in this mode.

Instead of watching the fuel gauge while filling up (and the gauge may not adjust fast enough while filling anyways) why not just take note of your "fuel used" function that the car has. If you reset that at each fill up and you know your car used a certain amount of fuel and the pump stops way before that point, then you know that you need to keep filling.

I must have got lucky, or the stations around me are in good shape, but I can't think about ever having an issue with the pump shutting off on me, at least anything more than any other car....

Why does the pump stop? I don't have this issue.

I think part of it may be due to the fact that there are two tanks, and when the fuel starts to spill over into the second tank crossover, it can change the back pressure on the fuel nozzle and cause shut off.
There is also a anti-siphon grid in the fuel inlet neck which tends to also cause additional restriction...
Not sure why they even need it really. The grid is pretty easy to knock out if someone was really determined to steal fuel....

Interesting theory but if true then that would seem to always happen when the tank is 1/2 full. But this happens to me at different times in the quest to fill the gas tank.

Me either (knock on wood). I don't remember ever having the pump shut off early.

For those that experience this fueling difficulty, does it kick off early less often if you use a slower pump setting?

I'm specifically referring to the mousetrap style detents on the dispensing handle.

Where I am, and most I've seen in the last 20 years or so, have 3 detents.

For sake of this thread I'll call them "slow," "medium," and "fast."

Does it kick off early (before "full") less often in medium or slow than it does in fast?

Would you expect it to take longer to fill in medium or slow than turning on the Accessory feature with the start button?

As I understand it, holding the start button engaged for 10-15 seconds, without pressing the brake, activates the "accessory" feature; like a keyed ignition switch would have.

Default It’s the Pump!

Actually it’s the shut-off mechanism in the pump handle. Fellow who knows how the work, posted and described why some stop.

My 2014 stopped ~20%of the time. My Grand Sport now about the same.

When it happens I hold the handle 90 degrees CCW and can press for full flow. Some folks place it upside down and leave it. However several posted and said it did’t shut off whendoing that!

My method shuts off fine. I’ll hold the handle and not take the chance!

Not really. I've had it shut down often at the lowest setting the pump has. I think it's more a function of fumes and perhaps may happen more frequently on hot days.

I'm specifically referring to the mousetrap style detents on the dispensing handle.
I've seen generally two types of pump handles here in San Diego. Don't know what you mean by mousetrap style detents. There is one style where the latch is at the back of the pump handle and another where it's at the front. Both fail for me.

Where I am, and most I've seen in the last 20 years or so, have 3 detents.
3 "detents" in the front or the back style - it doesn't really matter. Using the lowest pump setting still often causes a shut down.

For sake of this thread I'll call them "slow," "medium," and "fast."

As I said, I've had it kick off probably on all three settings but honestly it's not like I've done scientific tests. I mean once my tank is full I generally leave and don't say "Gee I should empty my tank and see how it performs on the medium setting".

Bottom line - it shouldn't happen at all and it happens much more with this car than any other car I've ever gassed up.

Would you expect it to take longer to fill in medium or slow than turning on the Accessory feature with the start button?
I have no idea what this question is supposed to be addressing. Generally when filling my tank I do something else like wash the windows or perhaps go in the convenience store to buy something. Coming out of the store only to realize that the pump stopped at $4.57 when it's clear to me I need at least 16 gals is a PITA.

As I understand it, holding the start button engaged for 10-15 seconds, without pressing the brake, activates the "accessory" feature; like a keyed ignition switch would have.
I don't understand why accessory mode is needed. I guess I can say that if I need gas then I'm filling the tank. It's not like I'm gonna put in $10 and then never drive the car again! In any event, the pump should shut off when the tank is full and not before that. So what is looking at the gas gauge on the instrument cluster do for you?

Default Early shut-Off

After 2300 miles on my Grand Sport, it has only Shut-Off early once. I think it has more to do with the Gas Station nozzle. I had trouble getting it started. It kept clicking off from the beginning using the Slow Mode setting.

The biggest problem was that it was COSTCO and they have the best price for gas in our area.

It's one of those "Welcome to California" things. The pumps there are way worse about this than they are in NV. I lived in CA for years and had certain cars that did this same thing. The pumps here in NV., I've never had an issue with on any of my cars. There may be a few other states that use fillers like CA does. A good trick to defeat this issue is to break off a short piece of pencil, and place it on the edge of the cars filler inlet before placing the filler nozzle in. The nozzle will hold the pencil piece in place and the pencil provides an air gap to keep the fumes from backing up and shutting the flow off. Don't know if there is room for this on the C7 or not since I don't have to do this anymore now that I no longer live in CA.

Not necessarily. Remember, the siphon in tank 2 pulls the fuel level down equally in both tanks, so when filling the fuel could start to spill over in the second tank anywhere on the gauge. For example, if you fill up with half a tank, there is 1/4 tank in each side, so it would spill over at 3/4 on the gauge.
