Default Lowering C7

Why doesn't the factory lower the C7 at the factory? Is there a reason they set height where they do?

Hmm, must not go in and out some of the driveways I do! Not only do I scrape my side air dams, in my C6 scraped and dented the "skid pads" (GM calls them radiator supports but they stick down much further than needed for that function and provide the additional function as well) several times and did the same in my 2014 C7. Fortunately on my C7 had installed plastic FANG "skid pad" protectors so no damage. They are are about 1 to 1 1/2 inches higher than the air dams and made from aluminum tubing! That aluminum on payment sound makes the rubber air dam scarping sound like music!

Below is a pic of my scraped "splitter protector." I fortunately added it several weeks before I had to exit a steep driveway in town!

That is all with factory settings!

Pic of bottom of the splitter "protector" I added to my Stage 2 aero splitter on my Grand Sport. Fortunately no damage to my carbon fiber splitter.

They keep the height a bit higher to get the car on and off the transport trucks without scraping.

Every thing on every car is a compromise.

A C7 scrapes a lot for many people, lower would be worse.

One of the aftermarket suspension companies here recommends keeping the car at stock height for best handling.

The problem is there is no “stock heightâ€. Go measure different cars at a dealer and you get different heights. Sometimes they don’t even match side to side. It seems pretty random coming from the factory.

Well, there is a stock ride height published in the Service Manual and on this Forum. But the tolerance is +/- 10mm at each end, so two cars could be almost an inch different at each end and still within spec.

Also, it takes a couple of hundred miles for the suspension to settle into it's more-or-less final position, so comparisons are even more difficult if both cars haven't been driven much.

Measure it with a micrometer
Mark it with a piece of chalk
Cut it with an axe.
