Default Noise when hatch opens

Am I the only one that is bothered by the clunky noise the hatch makes when the release button is pressed? Sounds cheap, not like a $70k+ car.

Not sure I would know the difference of how different a $200k car latch sounds from this one? Guess that is something I need for my bucket list.

I don't know. Are you the one that is bothered by it? My guess would be yes!

Ahh, the things we must endure for driving one of best performing cars on the road. But I agree it's probably the worst thing about the car.

I never noticed any "clunkiness"

If it wasn't loud, how could I hear that it opened? Especially, if I opened before I turned the engine off.

I guess it does clunk when you open it. I think you’re stuck with that one. Makes me wonder what a really expensive car sounds like when you pop the hatch or trunk though.

I'm more bothered by the location of the release button, if I had a dollar for every time my knee has popped that thing....

Well I never gave it much thought actually. It does sound clunky but that's such a small thing. I doubt anybody hearing me open it in public would think ill of the Corvette because of it.

The Corvette isn't a $70k car (your price may vary) because its a quiet luxury automobile like so many on the market now. Its a $70k car because its a kick-*** sports car that competes on the world market at a price far lower than its competitors.

Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter and his design team work to improve the driver experience. I doubt the latch got a whole lot of attention, even after the redesign to assist closing the hatch.

If you want to, you can use the remote fob to open the hatch while holding it down with the other hand. This should stop most of the "clunk" sound.

Clunk is good. It let's you know that the hatch has opened, whether you wanted it open or not. (knee trick getting out).

Boy, if that noise (?) bothers you, what do you think of all the tire/road noise in the C7?!

Doesn't bother me as I bought it for performance not as a RR luxury car! I do find the doors have that "quality sound" when closing- whatever that means and who cares as long as they stay shut!

PS: If my Street Rod had a trunk, would have added a motorized remote activated opener/closer to match the doors and windows! Could always have one added to the Vette, lots of kits available!

TECH INFO RE HATCH:

What I find funny about the hatch is I thought with the motorized pull down I would not need to have a door open when I closed it! I learned to live with the GM "magic," overly hyped memory wire activated vent that did not work for my car in the 3 1/2 years I had the C7. When I sold it, no amout of slamming would cause it to latch. I stopped pushing on the hatch to latch when I got my September 2013 built C7 coupe and saw the lower hatch frame bend "excessively" when I did. Thank goodness, as there were a number of subsequent reports of lower hatch frame paint cracking and several where the lower hatch frame itself cracked from pushing in the center! Yep composites do fatigue, similar to steel!

I find unless my Grand Sport door is open, I have to push to latch! Not an issue with paint cracks etc as the motor only requires a light push to grab and pull down. However I find I'm doing the same thing I learned with my 2014! I stand by an open door, push a fully opened hatch down with one finger from the side and it closes and latches every time! HAPPYNESS IS A TIGHT VETTE! (Air tight!)
