MRC Update = CAGS delete?
Anyone else noticed that CAGS/Skip Shift seems to be gone after the MRC update?
I normally don't worry about the CAGS too much, but it does get me every once in a while since all of my 5 mile commute is on 35mph or less roads in town and when there is traffic sometimes I'll have it kick on. I've been debating getting the eliminator to make it go away, but I haven't seen it once since I had the MRC update 2 weeks ago. I realized today that it wasn't coming on anymore so I purposely tried to shift in the range and I didn't get the pop up in the DIC and didn't get locked out of 2nd. I tried this several times, holding the speed steady at both 17, 18 and 19 mph and never got the pop-up or got locked out of 2nd.
I'm curious if anyone else had this result with the MRC update? Not sure how else it could have gone away because I haven't done anything else to my car. Everything else is stock besides my brake pad swap (dealer did this for me at the same time they did the MRC update and oil change).

I don't see how. The MSRC computer is a completely separate module that doesn't even exist in non MSRC cars. CAGS is a transmission issue. I wouldn't think an MSRC update would even touch the transmission computer.

Hence why I want to know if anyone else has seen this issue, or if something else happened to my car and CAGS is just gone...

It may be happening, but it doesn't follow that there is cause and effect here.

What are you doing to get CAGS to activate? If you aren't driving slow enough and shifting between 14 and 20 mph it won't activate.

Don't get me wrong, if I had the option to choose how my car was programmed this would have been the desired result. I'm just curious what happened because I didn't think you could make it go away without a tune... I'm pretty sure my Chevy dealer didn't do that!

OK. I just went out with mine. MSRC upgrade was done last week. I have an M7, and CAGS engages normally at slow speed. I rarely see it because I rev past it, but it definitely is STILL THERE to be ignored if possible.

I thought the same thing right after the MRC update. It came back after a few days of driving. Don't know why.

CAGS engagement depends on more than just speed. It also looks at coolant temp, throttle position and even barometric pressure. To tune it out usually you set one or more of these values to an u reachable level so cags can never engage. In your case, I would just make sure your coolant temp is up on the 170 range before testing it.

Why waste the $20? It's not worth the time & trouble. If you are engaging cags on anything but an occasional basis, you're shifting too low. Mine engaged in the NCM parking lot after R8C delivery and maybe twice* since then and it's been over a year.
* Except intentional testing as per above post.

I’ve had the update and mine still activates.

Since the MRSC upgrade is achieved with an MDI through the OBD2 connector, which I assume can access all modules in the car, why would it not be possible to access CAGS functionality, too. Some have reported a change in steering feel, which would be the same idea. I have a CAGS eliminator and truthfully have never noticed the CAGS notification on the DIC, but will keep an eye out now that I've had the MRSC upgrade done.

Because there is absolutely no evidence that it did, nor would it be necessary if the MSRC settings were what was to be changed. Why would it access a transmission setting? Everyone else, including myself, who has looked into this has reported cags still works normally. And if you have installed the cags eliminator, you've taken yourself out of this equation altogether because you'll never know. If additional evidence surfaces and more and more people report the elimination of cags, then okay. Let's look into this. But so far this anomaly has yet to be duplicated or confirmed.

If you'll go back and read my reply again you'll see that I was posing a hypothetical that it was possible, not making a categorical statement that the MRSC upgrade also affected CAGS or steering. I also see no evidence that it affects CAGS, but it might be possible to do. I offered that in response to your suggestion that it wasn't possible because it was a separate module.
