Default How remove engine cover

New Corvette owner here. I'm thinking of putting a catch can on the Corvette and it would make life a lot easier if I could take the engine cover off. My Challenger all it did was pop off. I have pulled on the LT1's cover and no movement. Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Hi mbaessler. If you're talking about the trio of covers on the top:
* The intake cover has studs that need to be removed. 4 if I remember correctly. You'll easily see them. Remove them and the intake cover will pop up and off.
* The two covers to the side of the intake cover just pop off, but: there are 4-6 zip ties holding wire looms to these covers on each side. When I removed mine, I found it easiest to carefully use a pair of side-cutters and cut the zip ties and remove them. I replaced the covers with the custom ones from pete@showstoppers, and used my own zip ties to hold the wires in place exactly as factory.

Hope this helps.

Hopper, other places I read said you had to take the side covers off first to access those 4 bolts. If so, Can you lift off a little bit the side covers to get to those bolts. Don't want to mess with the wiring harnesses you talked about?

This is a 19 page PDF of my install of a Catch Can on a C7 Z51 and my Grand Sport, just realized it got long when I included both! It's mostly lots of pictures: http://netwelding.com/Catch_Can.pdf

Just looked and on page 10 I show what I did on the 2014 without disconnecting everything needed to remove the cover but had plenty of room. On the Grand Sport got by without removing anything! FWIW

I was able to install mine without removing. I wanted to remove the thing, but figured be easier to fight it than the time spent removing it. Just gotta rassle with it.

Thanks Jerry that is helpful. Just have to figure out how to get the right tool to reach those stud bolts. I have a non Z51 so I'm thinking of using Elite's simple catch can as I'm a wet sump. Used one my Challenger had good results. Very easy to install. Cheap insurance or at least reduce the carbon a bit.

Varekai: On my challenger it was very easy to unscrew the bottom of the catch can, lift it out and dump the oil. On your catch can (is it an Elite) can you just unscrew the bottom and dump it.

Hi mbaessler, sorry I haven't replied but I've been gone for a bit.

You are correct that you need to move/remove the side covers before the intake cover studs are visible.

I'm also aware that some instructions indicate that the OEM zip ties will 'wiggle' out of the holes in the side covers. I couldn't get mine out and found it very easy to use side cutters to remove the OEM zip ties. I used my own zip ties when I put it back together - I keep several sizes of zip ties in my garage so it was no problem) and it was just like OEM when finished.

I'm including a pic so you can see that you need to remove the side covers to access the intake cover studs. BTW, these studs are easily removed with a deep socket (I think it was a 15mm, but I'm still out of town and don't remember for sure) and they are not tight at all.

Hope this helps!

Yeah no I know that, I was talking about the engine cover to install it. Easiest catch can I had as far as dumping was my Bob's catch can, jst had a check valve at the bottom.
