Default PDR Track Map/Finish Line Q

With the price of SD cards so low I decided to get a dedicated card for each track I go to so I don't have to mess around setting the finish line each time. What I'm not sure about is,

1) One track can be run CW and CCW. I assume this wouldn't be a problem since the track config and the finish line are still the same. Is that true?
2) Another track can be run as a short track and a longer mileage version. Both use the same finish line on the same straight away but the maps are quite a bit different. Will this freak out the PDR?

I'd rather not buy SD cards for every direction and configuration if I don't have to.

PDR will read where you indicate the start line is in the setup and does not care what track you are on. Uses GPS not stored track info for each setting. Just be sure to set the start line with each new outing.

I'm not sure, but I think it will be a problem. When you touch the PDR screen to "define finish line" it starts to develop a track map from that position until you run one lap and cross it again. That's the file that you are talking about creating for each SD card. Take a look at one of your SD cards that already has the map - it's a file named ".map.gpx", and below is the first second of data from a .map.gpx file from my home track:

<?xml version="1.0"?>

I boldfaced point 1 above, and you can see that it records the lat/long, elev, time, course, and point name. It records new points 5 times each second with the same info for each point around the track.

Because it contains the course I'm not sure what it will do if you record the .map.gpx file going CW then run the track CCW. It may work fine - you'll have to try it out and report back to us!!

2) Another track can be run as a short track and a longer mileage version. Both use the same finish line on the same straight away but the maps are quite a bit different. Will this freak out the PDR?

I'd rather not buy SD cards for every direction and configuration if I don't have to.
As far as different configurations, take a look at the thread linked below. Go to post# 5 and watch Bill Dearborn's video:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...hpde-pros.html

You can see that the .map.gpx file on his SD card was for the full course at VIR, but he was running the north course. You can see that the green line cuts across the middle of the track map. The PDR shows a lap time for each lap, but I don't know what Cosworth Toolbox showed for that section that section. So...the PDR didn't "freak out", but I don't know whether Toolbox will give you full data analysis of that section.

Also, take a look at this thread:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...px-thread.html

You can see Poor-sha started that thread as a library of .map.gpx files so anybody going to a track they haven't run before can download the appropriate file and upload it to their SD card so there will be no need to "define the finish line" - all they'll need to do is start recording before each session.

You can do the same thing on your home computer or laptop - that's what I've done for a couple tracks I've run. After you set a S/F line and the .map.gpx file has been defined on your SD card, when you stick that card into your computer, just download it into a folder with the name of the track, configuration, and direction. I don't think you can rename each .map.gpx file, so you'll just need to put them each in their own separate folders, then before going to a track put them on SD cards that identify which card has which config and/or direction.

Good luck, and let us know what you find works or doesn't work as far as running a track in the opposite direction from what the .map.gpx file was generated for.

And put all your .map.gpx files in Poor-sha's library thread for anybody else to be able to download before going to one of those tracks and running a particular config. It's really helpful for everybody to have the same S/F line when comparing somebody else's sessions to yours.

BEZ that was super helpful and really clears up how that map file and the PDR work. In two weeks I have a track day going the opposite direction so I'll be able to see what happens in that scenario.

I also love the idea of having a map library. It's so easy to forget to set it when out on track .

I confirmed today you can run a track map CW or CCW which sure is handy.
