Default Race Ramps and Storage Time

I tried waiting as long as I could, but it’s over. Put the car away today. I received the 2piece 10” Race Ramps wheel cribs I had ordered from Fred at Reverse Logic yesterday. Great product, flatstoppers and a 10” lift all in one. Easy access for oil change, Xpipe work, rear end and trans fluid changes. I’d highly recommend the 2 piece option as opposed to a solid 1 piece, because lifting it 5” at a time is much easier. Used the 4 corners to lift for the first stage, which gave me easy access to lift the front and back from the cross members for the second stage.
Anyway, it’s going to be a long 5 months of waiting for spring

Good choice! I like the 2 piece option.
Probably my next garage purchase.

Thanks Mike. I recommend talking to Fred, he's a vendor here. Best price I found and he's very helpful. I lowered my car on the factory bolts so I was a bit worried, but it's an easy and quick process to get the car up on them. Would love a lift, but height issues, so these will do for the next few years. And in all honesty, the small difference in price vs the 1 piece is well worth it.

I've done business with Fred in the past.
Good people and ships your order promptly.

You’ll love them Jack. I’ve been using Race Ramps for a few years, loading and unloading my cars on and off my trailer, and I love them. These cribs are the same super light, high quality product as the rest of their lineup. A portable lift that weighs about 7 lbs.

Looks like a nice product but I’ve been storing Corvettes ( and other classics) for over 40 years and all that I do to prevent flat spots is to over-inflate the tires to 40 lbs. It works for me.

Thanks John, not XO, Stance SF03 in gloss black. Appealing to me because they have an OEM look, but more aggressive.

B&B, I agree with you, I pump my cars up to about 40psi. Not worried much about flatspots with today’s tires, it’s just a “2 birds with one stone” product. It’s much more about safe access without having a lift to me than flatstoppers. But nice that it offers both.

I just use the Flat Stoppers by Race Ramps. Any reason other than accessibility you like to keep it that high in the air?

None at all Z51. Nothing more than - for less than the price of quality Flatstoppers, I can also safely work under my car without a lift with all 4 corners evenly off the ground. Rear end fluid, trans fluid changes, oil changes, etc.

How were you able jack the car that high to get the cribs under there? What kind of jack did you use and did you jack from the centers of the car or the sides?

In order to avoid jacking the car too high, I ordered the 2-piece Race Ramps 10” wheel cribs. Each piece is 5 inches tall (4.75 from bottom of the tire grooves) giving you a total of 10” rise. I lifted each corner with my jack and jack pucks (low profile Arcan XL3000 3ton jack from Costco $94.99, jack pucks from Wild Vettes) only about 6” off the ground and inserted the first 5” set of blocks. At this point the car is sitting evenly 5” off the ground. Then I used the same jack to lift from the center of the crossmember up front, raising both front wheels evenly to insert the second 5” blocks. Repeated this step for the rear. The whole process doesn’t take more than 10 minutes. (I believe it was you that had a “what jack to use” post recently. JerryU posted his updated pics showing you safe lifting points. Use his pic to determine where to lift from). Hope this helps.

Trying to get a couple more days here. Yesterday it snowed most of the day but it melted off the roads and they're saying no precip today and tomorrow. Still, driving season is coming to an end. On the bright side, ski season is that much closer.

Even up here in the Great White North, driving season never really comes to a complete end once this time of year arrives. Sure, we get cold weather and snow, but we also get quite a few days of rain throughout the winter, enough to wash away any trace of road salt for brief periods of time. Last year was a particularly good year for Corvette driving, I was able to drive mine at least 3-4 times every month. I have yet to see a winter since 1999 where our roads were covered in salt for the entire winter period.

Michigan is not like that.

Once the salt goes down it’s here until March if not April.

It’s pretty bad here in the winter. Conversely we have gorgeous summers. So I guess there is that.

Im a few hours across the border from you Patman, so fairly similar weather, except likely more lake effect snow. I agree, the winters have not been so terrible that you can't drive a vette, but both cars have summer only/ or track performance tires on them. I have a DD, so all season tires are not worth it to me. I enjoy spirited driving and live in a winter pothole wonderland. So to constantly worry about changing weather, not driving them the way I enjoy driving them and having my fun cars take the winter road abuse, just doesn't appeal to me. I'll take them out in April when the roads and weather are more suitable. Meantime, the new storage setup will allow me to change oil and trans fluid before putting the car back on the road. (wish I had these a few weeks back when I changed the dif fluid. And of course the trans fluid is not a must at 3,500 miles, but I like swapping to a higher quality synthetic fluid).

Living in VA, we do indeed get "winter" weather, snow, ice and what not -- but we do have enough nice days (over 40 degrees) when I can still drive the Corvette. So long as I don't leave it sit longer than 3 weeks at a time (highly unlikely here), I probably will not have to worry about flat spots on the summer-only tires.

I am likely going to order some race ramps (for oil changes, etc.) sometime early in 2018 after I have my second "free" oil change done by the local Chevy dealer (at about 6,000 or so miles) when my February state inspection is due.

I live close to Toronto Canada, I'll be driving it until beginning of December. I find people put their cars away to early.
