Default Oh what to do? '18 or '19 C7 Grand Sport Coupe

45 +/- years ago I had my 1st experience with a Corvette. My cousin just bought a new car and he took me for a ride – it was then, I was bit by the Corvette bug. I knew someday I would buy one. Well the stars must be aligned and I have the boss’s blessings , so it is time to pull the trigger.

Looking to order a Grand Sport Coupe 3LT in Long Beach Red with Spice Red or Black interior. It looks like we have just over a week to order an 18 or do we wait until the end of the month and order a 19. I live in Canada and will not be able to drive it until March/April so delivery is not an issue. Dealer will store it until I pick it up.

Any thoughts what changes might be with MY 19,

Some thoughts

· 2018 – 9,700+/- units to be built. One of the lowest production years in over 50 years.

· With constraints and allocations (which I do not fully understand) will it be built?

· Will the 18 be painted in the new paint shop? I have seen some LBR 16’s and 17 both showed some orange peel . After GM spending close to ½ a billion dollars – paint will improve. Regardless it is not a deal breaker

· 2019 rumors some new electronics? It would be great to have lane departure and adaptive cruise control – silly but our other cars have it but still not a deal breaker.

· 2018 – I know the price and able to get it at cost?? (just over $11500 off list with the GM Visa ($750) and Black Friday ($500) rebates. Again I’m in Canada

My wife does not really care about cars, rims, colors, options (that being said she did care when she ordered her SUV and convertible (manual) ;-) her only comment was it might be best to order an automatic as our new office location we have to deal with stop and go traffic EVERY day.

It is tough living in our home as she is outnumbered by car junkies -we have 2 teenage boys who are right into this buying/research process. (to be fair my wife has been a trouper as she has been out with us to look at several cars over the last month).

Oh what to do??

Rad, the 19's will be like the 18's, you won't be able to tell the difference. GM will not be adding adaptive cruise, lane departure, etc. The only thing that could be a negative is the 18's will be one (only by manufacture date) year old quickly. If you're planning to keep the car for awhile that won't make that much difference though IMHO. So, if it were me I'd get the '18 simply for the cost savings. I'm quite sure others here will tell you different, so ultimately it will be a tough decision for you to make. Good luck on that decision.

The '19s go into production less than three months from now...maybe wait until then and find an '18 on the lot
equipped reasonably to your liking...

with so much $ invested to improve all around quality with the 19's, not being able to tell the difference is going to be quite a let down.

You don't know if GM will drop the spice interior in 2019? With that being said and if that is the interior you want order the 2018.

I was thinking the same with the chance of the Spice Red being dropped. I would hope that some of the plant upgrades and new paint shop would spill into the 2018 production starting up next week.

I would order a 2018, you’ll likely get the best deal on an 18 vs a 19 right now. Contact me if you’d like help with any questions you have, I’d be happy to help fill your order as well! Nchandler@vbchevy.com

Buy a C6
And go backward 10 years!

I’m on Corvette number 10 (every C model) and in my opinion every year is better than the year before. (Most of the C3’s would be the exception) I’d buy the 2019. I️ know they maybe the same car but since you may not drive it until spring the 19 is the way i’d go. You will be very happy with either one.

If money is a big concern than I would go with a 2018. Obviously you will get a better deal on one versus a 2019.
Myself I would wait until the changes for the 2019 are announced before I made a decision.

With the new paint shop online I am hoping for less orange peel in the paint. But, if the OP is ordering his '18 it will most likely be painted in the new shop.

BTW, may I ask what "all around quality" do you speak of?

I gave it a lot of thought, there is good arguments for both sides. After giving it a lot of thought I ordered my 18 this week. I plan on keeping mine for several yrs and I was concerned my ceramic matrix gray paint might not last threw the 19 MY so I jumped now.

I don't think there will be an A10 in the traditional C7 body (Stingray, Z51, GS and Z06). Tadge was vocal on this, he said the chassis dimensions do not allow for the size of the A10.

I'm leaning towards the 18 as well - I know my cost and incentives. Dealer is making it very attractive. My choice of Long Beach Red and Spice Red interior and with such low quantities of Spice Red being ordered I don't want to miss out if the 19's drop it. Sounds like the Long Beach Red will be painted in the new paint shop which would be a bonus.

Most likely it won't. I'm simply relaying vette news gathered here, on this great forum by Jag. If you or op want specifics look for his posts. Only 4 colors starting up in new shop.
