Waze not working right on Android Auto
I have a Samsung Note 8.
I haven't had the chance to try what I think it is yet but I'm guessing this may be happening because of the medium power save mode that I usually keep my phone in.
Has anybody had this issue?

Personally I don't like Waze:
1. Alerts; Rarely get them - even when I can clearly see it on the map. Most times what they say is there isn't there. Can you say false sense of security - sure you can.
2. Waze does not tell me what lane I need to be in for an exit on multi-laned highway. GM does and it's very useful when when you got 7 lanes to cross...
3. Route display: Waze's is poor. You see 3 cards with a line below them and then their traffic/construction icons. No way to tell where exactly the traffic is along your route. With GM the map shrinks down and you see 3 different routes color coded for traffic and with an indication if it's 10 minutes slower or 4 minutes slower for routes B and C.
4. Really don't need Waze advertising to me to stop and get a burger at a red light...
Edit: Additional observations...
I just got back from driving from San Diego to Carmel for Tommy Emmanuel's Guitar Camp (with Joe Satriani holding his own camp at the same facility!). So I thought I'd run Waze one way and Google Maps the other way. Sorry to say but I had to stop using Waze! In addition to the above:
5. Does not apparently support multiple stops. So y ou're driving and say search for "Denny's nearby". It finds it and sets a route for the one you select - and then discards your current route! Just damn forgets it. I mean yes it's in a recents list but it did not add your stop at Denny's as an additional stop!
6. It draws a horrible map! When driving say on I-5 here in California, it'll zoom out which is OK. But the route drawn on the map then gets about 3 times thicker than when you are zoomed in and it looks like crap. Doesn't seem to zoom in properly when a turn is upcoming and if you zoom in to try to fix the too fat for it's own good line it'll just zoom out some time later.
7. I occasionally lose the route if I say stop at 7-11 and take my phone with me.

It was the power save mode that was causing it to not work when the Waze app came on the display. Once I turned off power save mode on my Samsung phone Waze worked as I expected on Android Auto. And I love it! I know where the po po's are hiding.

Not only that, its so much easier to use and mark things on the map than using a phone. This is a must have app and its one of the main reasons I got a 16 instead of a 15. Waze even lets me put my Red Z06 on the map! Sweet!

This is better than a radar/laser detector...at least in commonly traveled roads with lots of users. Driving without this screen on especially when you have the ability (16 and higher C7) to do so is risky!

I've used AA before with no problem. Lately I still see visual activity on info screen but no sound. Usb cable used was initially for charging only. So it did work when first setting up AA. Haven't tried yet but cable that came with phone is labeled for Data. Thought all cables were created equal?

Also, cables wear out. I'm on my 3rd. They don't even give you any kind of real visual indication. The last cable, for example, just stopped being able to connect to AA for unexplained reasons. I replaced it and it's reliably connecting.
Try a new cable. They're cheap and you probably even already have a few lying around.

Looks to be a random software glitch with Android Auto with the device, not the car. I say that because a quick restart of the phone has corrected it. Also have issues at time where the system won't recognize the phone with no rhyme or reason and restarting the phone corrects it.
Have seen a few updates to AA (on the device) recently so perhaps they're addressing some of these bugs...

BTW, I'm quite technologically challenged, and found out recently that all cables aren't created equal.

I was an Apple fan for many years (as I type this on a MacBook Air) but have shied away recently. My mobile device of choice now is Android (actually use both) but my next computer purchase will not be an Apple offering despite 6 years of reliable service from an Apple device...
Now if the "Goog" somehow manages to merge Waze and GasBuddy, they may well take over the driving universe!

Also with the recent update to AA on the phone, you can access the device and it's apps while connected to the vehicle.
Previously, this was problematic but set as a "safety" feature. Problem was if you needed to access other apps (like GasBuddy for example) it was locked out when connected via USB.

Problem: If I disconnect the phone while using AA and replug the phone in, I can use Waze on the IS (infotainment screen), but I can't get back into Waze on the phone (click the Waze icon on the phone and it doesn't do anything)
Solution: Everytime I connect my S9+ to the car, I start Waze on the phone before I plug the USB cable
Problem: Sometimes, at the beginning of a new drive, when I select Waze on the IS, the app will start up but no map data will display, which is annoying.
Solution: I flip over to Google map on the IS, and then back to Waze, and the map data is populated
Problem: When I switch over to the radio and back to Android Auto (using the "home" button under the IS), the map does not come up unless I select Waze on the IS. (Apple CarPlay immediately showed the maps again upon pressing "home", saving this extra step).
Solution: None, as far as I can tell. You have to do the extra step. I wish AA would fix this so that you go back to a default map app upon pressing "home".

Other things that I have done that have seemed to help stability of AA:
- Bought a Anker PowerLine USB C to USB 3.0 Cable (eBay $8.32). This cable is consistently ranked one of the best for Galaxy phones
- "Optimize" the phone prior to use with AA (do a search online for how to optimize your phone, there are probably 100 links on this subject)

All-in-all, these are minor complaints vs Apple Maps and I am pleased with my choice. Waze has already saved me from getting several tickets and recently helped me avoid a nasty traffic jam in East Dallas with a recommended course correction.

I had all sorts of problems when I first started using Android Auto. Bottom line...my phone's storage was very close to full (I had the Galaxy S6 with no extra storage available). As soon as I upgraded to the S8, it worked properly from the first time I hooked it up.
Also...you might do well to order an original Samsung cable. The type and quality of the cable does make a difference. Once I had the proper cable and the new phone with adequate storage, my AA has worked consistently ever since...and Waze has worked properly as well.
