Wanted to get peoples thoughts whether this damage requires a new set of rears or is it repairable. Current set of Pilot Super Sports only have 13K and are at 7/32 of tread.
That is a standard business card for size reference.
Look inside that cut and see if any part of the cord is visible. If so I'd replace it, because of water getting into the cord area. If the depth isn't as deep as it seems then you can use it, but I'd keep an eye on it, maybe a close eye.
Ruining your car, or worse, hurting your passenger, others on the road or yourself is not worth the few hundred dollars. Get it replaced asap, there's no repairing that
If it were me and if after putting soapy water on it with no bubbles and if I couldn't see any chords, I'd get some kind of rubber glue and glue the damage back in place and drive it. Looks to me like you just damaged the "wheel curb protection" part of the tire.
13k and you have 7/32 left, damn. I'm at 13xxx and I have about 4+ on rears and 2-3 on fronts I would glue it up to keep water out and not worry too much about it. If it were a front tire I'd replace
You all are funny with what you actually think is a real world issue concerning tires!
That is absolutely a non-repararible wound! Glue is not going to fix that in this universe or the next.
Can you drive on that for a long time? Probably. These tires are tough! I've driven on worse for a long time, but never did I delude myself by thinking that it was reparable.
Nobody is saying it's repairable. But if it's not leaking air and the chords aren't touched then the structure of the tire doesn't need a repair. It looks like superficial damage to me from the pictures which is all we have to go on.
