I recently purchased a new 17 Stingray with the Z51 package and a 7-speed manual. My previous Corvette was a 2009 also with a manual transmission. The skip shift on the C6 was an absolute PITA and I put the Skip Shift Eliminator in the car just as soon as possible. That is I ordered it and had it overnight shipped and installed it within hours of delivery. The C7 only has 1600 miles so far but and the skip shift has only engaged once so far. I am not sure if my driving habits have changed as the C6 was my first Corvette and perhaps I drove it easier as I got used to the power or the programming on the C7 is different.
Has anyone who had both a C6 and C7 noticed the same thing? I ordered the Eliminator for the C7 but will not install it till I have some time to put the car on stands. That is no hurry.
I've owned both C6 manual and C7s with manual. I have never installed the CAGS eliminator in any of the Vettes. I don't recall any discernable difference in 1-4 forced shifts in any of the cars. I just wind up first gear more before I go to 2nd. The few times I do get forced, I will go into 3rd instead of 4th.
I think its alot faster TO DIS engage on the C7....
I can make it happen or do randomly about the same amount but it lets me put it into 3-4 alot faster then a C5 or C6 to me.
Most my cars are tuned so the rare times I have one that it does still work is short lived. like this C7 next week cam install with so it will be gone ha
If the "1->4 skip shift" bothers you, you're probably using first gear at times when you should be using second.
I've had a 6 speed Camaro for a few years and I've driven the C6 with this "feature" and it never bothers me. The only time I would even notice it is in stop and go traffic, but I don't notice it then because in stop and go traffic, I stick the thing in 2nd and leave it there. Since stop and go traffic in this part of the country is often accompanied by wet roads and storms, it's really a good idea to just start in 2nd and not have to worry as much about breaking the tires loose on slippery pavement.
I have both a C5 (2001 I ordered) and a new '18 and I had much the same experience. I bought the eliminator before I picked up the '18 but found in the two months and nearly 2K miles I've driven it that I've never experienced the skip-shift even once. Who knows...

Had a C6 Z51 and installed a skip shift Eliminator. Got my 2014 Z51 and was in bumper to bumper traffic and shifted sooner than normal. In came on. It is not as obtrusive in the C7 but why have it ever come on!? Installed a CAGS Eliminator.
Bought one before my Grant Sport arrived. While changing my Brake pads to ceramic on day 1 to eliminate dust, while the back driver’s side wheel was off-installed it. Easy to do and now $15 on eBay! Why ever have the computer tell you what gear to choose!
PS:
I was cleaning my black wheels with Z51 OEM pads ever ~100 miles. If I didn’t the dust was not only looking bad it as pitting my wheels. Installed Csrbotech 1521 pads and only washed the wheels when I washed the car.
Didn’t wait with the Grand Sport, doing the same with it. With the Carbotech 1521 pads, wash the wheels when I was the car! What little dust is there does not pit mt wheels if a long time before I get to wash it! Consider buying quality ceramic brake pads and when you do, install the CAGS Eliminator at the same time!
My 2017 C7 is my DD. I spend a decent amount of time in traffic. Within a week of buying my C7 I installed the CAGS eliminator. I wish I knew about this mod when I had my 2005 C6.

Are you saying that when I install the GAGS Eliminator the dash will not tell me what gear the car is in?
^^^
HMM, not sure how you got that impression from what I said!? The CAGS Eliminator has nothing to do with the gear indicator or in fact the 1 to 4 shift dash light! All it does is disconnect the blocking solenoid and puts a resistor in the circuit to "fool the computer" to thinking it did it's job! So you'll still get the 1 to 4 dash light. Works exactly like it did in your '09 as it did in my '08 C6.
It will not trip a CEL nor is it detectable by the service department, GM etc. No harm! (see you caught my post while I was still writing!)
Did not even know that the C5 had the skip shift, and I had 3 of them. You can probably guess how I drive. The C6 and now my C7 were not a issue, in traffic I am in 2nd gear and on the road I never shift from first below 25 mph. I have never felt the need to put in the CAGS item. But, hey, if it works then the low cost of it is worth the time and effort...put it in and son't think about the skip shift ever again.

Thank you. I misread your first post. (need a red face smile)
I've lived with the 1-4 across four Corvettes, three generations. I guess I'm used to it because I've never had a CAGS eliminator and haven't had any problems shifting.
So, to your question, I haven't noticed any difference in my '16 vs my previous '10 GS.
The C7 skip shift is less intrusive than the C6. I installed the eliminator on mine.
Everyone will say you’re not shifting right, it only activates in a small speed range, blah, blah, blah. If I want to do a short shift at 16 mph I don’t want the computer telling me I can’t.
When I first got my Corvette I had never driven a manual car before. I bought the car from a city 6 hours away and they taught me how to drive just off the highway in a parking lot. The 1-4 shift message would come on a lot for me and scared the living crap out of me for 2 weeks. Once you learn how to properly shift and understand when to shift you will never see that warning again.
It came on when I was going too fast in 1st and it goes away and lets you shift into any gear if you give it a few seconds. Just put on a few hundred miles and you'll be a pro and wont ever see that again.
I was going to spend money getting the clutch engage point changed, different shifter, that gimmicky thing that prevents the forced shift. Time has shown me that it was me and not the car. Drive it enough and you'll find your comfort zone.
If you drive a lot in traffic, it's useful.
There are times when you don't get a chance to wind out first gear.
It's a no brainer, just put the damn thing in a forget about it.
I had one on my C5 Z06, but the C7 rarely engages so I have never installed one on it.
I have one, but would rather leave it off unless the CAGS becomes more noticeable.
Been driving my 2014 C7 without it now for almost 4 years.
