Deer vs C7 Video
#2
It amazes me how much damage even a minor deer collision can cause. A buddy of mine hit a deer 8 or 9 years ago, and there was deer hair wedged in the beed between the tire and the rim! How did that happen? Not to mention similar damage to what you experienced. Of course, his car was a Nissan Altima, so the headlight wasn't quite as expensive to replace.

Hate to see that. Looks like they did a great job repairing the damage.

Deer are an ever present menace where I live in WI, especially now.
If I'd a taste for venison I'd be more than happy doing my share culling the herd.
$3K+ for a glancing blow, ouch.

I've spent a lot of time around paint. In the video, there are a couple dead giveaways showing that they (possibly) wetsanded but (definitely) polished the bumper cover once already. Although the "curing" advice they gave you is bs (my job was wetsanding and polishing at a collision shop for 4 years while I was in school) waiting til spring won't hurt anything. Just make sure you go back and have them correct their mistakes on the paint. After all, they charged handsomely for it.
Glad it's behind you though. Deer overload where I'm at too. It's cute to see one or two, but when 9 hang out in your back yard making messes, eating all the flowers and killing your grass, you get sick of them quickly. I'm not a hunter, nor like venison, but we could use a couple extra months of hunting season here

^^^ Thanks for the advice! I'm debating weather I should take it back to them at all in the spring. Would wet sanding even work? I don't like the swirl marks they left for sure.

Chances are good they 1. Have an old or dirty ventilation system in the booth and 2. Some jr apprentice cutting his teeth was put on wetsand/polish duty. I wish you were closer, I'd gladly try to wetsand/polish it for you. Here's the issue (and ironically why you should go back to them). The swirls are a result of inexperience. He was probably so inexperienced that he missed the debris/fibers and the run. OR being so inexperienced, he was scared of wetsanding and polishing a Corvette, and only attacked the most visible issues. The biggest problem with inexperience is how deep did he wetsand? If someone else wetsands and polishes it, and there isn't enough clear left resulting in the paint "opening up", you will need a complete respray of the facia which that person is not obligated to pay for (and don't fall for the "spotting" and "blending" crap, that's fine on my leased Traverse, but not on a vette). So unfortunately, you'll have to go back to them because if the paint opens up while they wetsand to remove the debris, they'll have to repaint it to fix their mistake. As they should, they were already paid once for a clean paint job. Also mention to them that the swirl marks they left are unacceptable to make sure they put someone experienced on the job. Hope this helps buddy.

The damage wasn't that big, I was expecting a very bad scenario

I've hit 2 of those fvkcers in the last 2 years on motorcycles.
Here's a good pic that shows how the deer hair actually gets wedged into the plastics.
BTW, I have deer whistles on my bikes...

A couple years ago I was headed to work at 4:00am. I was driving about 2hrs each way then. I was behind a few large trucks when all of a sudden it looked like it was snowing. I was like wtf? All of a sudden this huge deer came rolling out from under this truck in the middle of the lane. There was nowhere to go and I was doing 60. I instinctively turned the wheel towards the head hoping to get the least amount of damage possible. Driving to work was the worst smell you can imagine, but I saw no damage. My wife took it in to have it looked at. The guy told her "There is no way a dear was hit in this car". They put it up on a lift and he said "Oh yeah, you definitely ran over a dear in this car". Took them a couple hours to clean the blood and hair off the bottom so they could make sure there was no real damage...which there was none. I was extremely lucky. I am hoping I stay that way.

When they’re so overpopulated, almost nothing works. Coming home 2 nights ago I missed them by inches when 3 darted out in front of the car. I tried putting my hand out in front of her but my wife has a seatbelt mark on her collarbone. These things are like rats around here.

What dealer? Might need them in the future. I'm in Western MD and the deer are plentiful.
