Default COKE: The real thing, or Coke zero?

I have some bad news, and some good news.

The bad news is that my #8 cylinder broke a valve spring.

The good news is that while they were inside mucking about, they found no evidence of coking. In fact they said it was "clean as a whistle!" The other good news is mine is a 2014, so this was covered 100% under warranty. I picked it up today. The car turned 80,000 miles on the way home today.

What this will do to the catch-can peeps is anyone's guess. I do not have one.

You talk to GM mechanics and they will tell you they don't see it. They will tell you about a lot of stuff they do see but intake valve coking isn't one of them. With several million DI engines on the road it would seem like it would be well known at GM dealerships if valve coking was happening.

I see what you did there. Inciting a riot very innocently? I like it. My can will stay where it is, but I'm subcribing to this.

They will still believe. Research shows that criticizing a belief actually makes it stronger. It's also like a placebo. If you think it works, then it does! Besides, there is the satisfaction issue. It's way better than replacing the oil cap with one that says "Mobil1" on it. If you add a catch can, why, you must be a certified mechanic because you modified your Corvette! You got your hands dirty. Now THAT'S impressive!

I'm not going to argue catch-cans, but it is odd how some manufacturers suffer coking in their DI engines and others don't. Audi had a significant problem with their early model 3.0L supercharged V6 to the point they offered extended warranty protections for coking. Be curious to know the engineering differences that allow some to work cleanly and others to fail. Still, good news to hear your valves were clean.

Where does one get NON top tier fuel? I've been going through my "runway approaches" here at home in my mind and I can't think of a station that is not Standard, Shell, or Texaco, though Costco is nearby. And on the road it's pretty much all top tier, i.e.: Easy to get. So I'm thinking at least for me I would have to go out of my way to get sub-standard fuel.

Couldn’t catch a hint of sarcasm there.

Yes.

I can't attest to the fill when I bought the car, but other than a few gallons here and there to get me to a top tier station, yes.

Most fills are on Tuesday at the Shell station on a Tuesday when it's 20 cents off for premium.

This post of yours is pure BS. I was just asking members if they thought if the constant use of a top tier fuel is the reason for the clean valves!!

I hope not because none was intended. I don't know what "see 7 C's" means. I don't believe I have ready access to any non top tier gas--not that I would want any, mind you.

Then why didn't you ask that question? I didn't get that from your post.

Where is Jerry? I'm sure he'll be along with an explanation for this "inconvenient truth" soon.

Sorry Lisa, but sounds like all is well.
