Default Name That Sound...

I have an odd sound that I can hear best from inside the car, windows up.

Best way I can describe it is it sounds like a small air compressor running. It's not the A/C compressor, I have it off. It's not the HAVC fan, doesn't change the I run the fan up and down. Doesn't seem to change with RPM. Worse when I have a cold engine. I can also hear it from the top of the left head with the hood up, slightly less on the right side, but it seems louder setting in the car.

Direct Injection injectors, maybe? Car runs great, no CEL. Ideas???

Dry sump car? If so, when cold then it does make somewhat of a gurgling sound with the oil system getting up to speed. More noticeable when cold...

Injectors are a constant sound....

No, base Stingray.

Constant as in always there, or constant in frequency, doesn't vary with RPM?

Some cars run a self-test of the anti-lock brake system right after the engine is started. You may hear the pump running, and you may feel pulsations in the brake pedal during the test, but it normally only lasts for several seconds.

Thanks for the input, but it's not the ABS pump. I'm familiar with that sound, and this is there pretty much all the time, just worse when it's cold.

I know the sound you are speaking of. Have no idea what it is, other than, maybe something to do with the Infotainment/Navigation system.... hasn't affected the car's driving or performance in 55K miles....

A video might help.

One thing I might add is that these new engines make lots of strange noises that are normal for them, but that you aren’t used to hearing.

If your temperarure is normal, oil pressure is normal, it drives normal, and you don’t have a check engine light, chances are, it’s normal.

I tried to get a video this morning, but for whatever reason the sound was very quiet, and I couldn't capture it. I have a 300 mile drive I have to do tomorrow, so I'll see if I can get a good sound clip...

Left-rear of engine is where the high pressure camshaft driven fuel pump is located.
That's what you are most likely hearing.

Thanks. That would probably explain why it's louder when cold...

Ain't it the truth. I've owned 14 Corvettes prior to my 2016 base Stingray and none have ever made all the weird noises in the cabin this one does. I believe they are "normal" to the car.

Fortunately, it runs and performs beautifully and puts all of my previous Vettes to shame.

I heard the same sound and left it with my dealer overnight so they could start it cold. They reported back that it was "operating normally". The injectors also seem to be louder when engine is cold.
