Default Car and Driver GS Performance Data

There have often been questions about the performance of the Grand Sport with standard Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires versus most published data that used Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

The January 2018 issue of Car and Driver presents data with both.
With the Standard Pilot Super Sports they state max lateral "g" at 1.13 and stops from 70 mph of 136 feet.

With the Z07 package and it's carbon-ceramic brakes with Cup 2 tires the max lateral "g" is 1.18 and 70 mph stops take only 129 feet.

The article compares the Grand Sport with the 718 Boxster and Cayman.

I like seeing this info.
My observation is that the differences, for the cost of the ZO7 package and brakes, is minimal - .05 g and 7 feet.
But the bling factor is significant - like the look and would buy it if I could have.

Yep, the big benefit of carbon-ceramic brakes is if racing or tracking. They can operate at very high temps and not fade. For the Car and Driver standard 70 to 0 test, the brakes are no doubt warm but not at multiple lap Track temps.

In fact I have a somewhat unique braking requirement. When I leave the 25 mph, twisty road I live on I enter a 4 lane divided highway and have to merge into ~65 mph traffic. In a short distance I turn into another rural road and donn’t even have a shoulder to use to slow down. Hit the brakes very hard to make that turn so traffic behind doesn’t have to slow down! Especially those 18 Wheeler log trucks! I found the Carbotech 1521 pads I added to my 2014 Z51 stoped even better with cold pads than the OEM. I have those on my Grand Sport to reduce brake pad dust and with those pads and bigger Grand Sport brakes stopping is great.

When there is a car at the Stop sign waiting to enter the highway when I turn, (not often) I’m sure some wonder if the Vette can stop to make the turn!

For those tests, I'll bet most of the difference is in the tires, not the carbon ceramic brakes.
