My dad has a boat, and when he stores it for the winter, he puts moth ***** in the cabin. It keeps the mice and anything else out. The only down side is the smell that stays around for a month or two after the boat is re-commissioned.
I tried mothballs on 2 cars (lots of them everywhere underhood) that had to be parked outside. Mice, packrats, squirrels all took up residence. Chewed wires, stored acorns inside the round air filter (old car/truck), pooped everywhere, etc. If the critters want your wiring, they're going in regardless. Lots of traps in garage. I'm a big fan of the glue traps. When home or leaving always close garage door & don't store birdseed, deer corn in garage!
Find an ultrasonic plugin device for the garage and also buy 100% pure peppermint oil. Place a few drops of the oil on cotton ***** then place inside your engine compartment, on top of all four tires, and tail pipes. You should check the cotton ***** and reapply about once a month. Also add a few cotton ***** on the corners of your garage doors and any other entrance points. Many will say it does not work, but if you get the right 100% pure peppermint oil it should work fine. Supplement the target area with bait box traps if they are already living in the garage. It works for me.

Those ultrasonic plugins do work. We used them in our basement when we lived next to a creek that generated a lot of mice. Only one got in and that one didn't last long. We had no traps and only found out we had a mouse when our termite control guy pointed out the droppings. He stated the ultrasonic drove the mouse crazy and it died.
I also use Irish Spring soap and have done this for quite a few years with no evidence of mice or anything else getting in to cars. I slice the bar of soap and put in plastic trays and put in car. Smells good in spring!
Just curious, did you guys who are recommending dryer sheets actually have issue with mice in your cars that went away after using the dryer sheets? Or do you not have mice issues and just assume the dryer sheets are the reason?
