Hi, new vette owner still trying to learn the ropes. The section of garage I keep the vette in requires me to fold the mirrors to get in an out of. Another gentlemen that owns a vette, said to me that those folding mirrors are designed that way for transportation from the factory, and if I keep folding to get in the garage and then unfolding when I get out, I will eventually break the mechanism that allows the mirrors to be folded. Do I need to be concerned about that?
I hope the mechanism is better than on the C5. They had a very strong spring held on with a pressed on washer that would wear and pop off, along with the mirror.
Wish they would do that automatically upon car turn off and reverse upon car turn on....
Hmm, turning them off only when I shut off the car and on when it starts would not help me get more clearance through the garage!
Our BMW SUV does it just fine. Press a button on the driver's side arm rest and they shut before moving into the garage. If you like, you can use the button to open them once you're out of the garage OR BMW won't let you drive at any speed with them closed! At 25 mph they open!
Love German Engineering - sometimes. However wish you didn't have to push the start/stop button twice to shut off the car!
That feature is also very useful when going through the bank drive-in window. Can get close! With the C7 being low and with the mirror sticking out, at times have to open the door and get out!
I agree with others in that it makes for good garage clearance when you have them folded. Plus it's not like we're constantly screwing around with the mechanism. I've yet to hear or read an issue about them in the C7 series unless I'm totally missing something. Shouldn't be an issue.
