What are your thoughts?

I've always wanted to drive the PCH, but with the closures due to landslides, and presumed fire damage, I'm starting to think heading out East may be the better extended trip.

My wife and I are also heading East in June from Houston. We made the trip in my 71' back in 15', taking the Z this year.

Our current plan is to head from Houston straight to BG for the Vette plant tour and museum, then we are heading from BG up to Pigeon Forge (she wants to go to Dollywood ), then shooting back down to Deals Gap to stay at the Topoco Lodge for a weekend and rip up the Tail of the Dragon, hike in the mountains etc. I highly recommend staying at Topoco Lodge, its 1 mile from the start of the Tail, good restaurant, cool little bar, individual cottages up in the mountains within walking distance of the main lodge house. Also cruise down the Blue Ridge Parkway and Cherohala Skyway. Lots of great roads in NC.

We'll likely take a scenic route back cut through northern Arkansas as there is some bad *** driving roads up there.

Back in 15' we went from Deals Gap down to Florida, then over to New Orleans and back home, about 2600 miles in 7 days. It was a total blast in my 71'.

I'm really looking forward to the trip in early June 2018 in the Z.

I have also done the PCH and it is a LOT of fun as well, we started in San Fran and went to LA, stopping/staying in most cities along the coast, I highly recommend it, WHEN the entire state is not on fire...It would be a mess out there right now. There is a bad *** car show in Pismo Beach every year in June, the whole town turns into a car show, weather is outstanding....we planned a vacation around that car show one year. Plus, for us car guys, there is a lot of cool sports car history in California, particularly in L.A and North of the Hollywood hills... Mullholland drive, Mullholland hwy and running back to Malibu---These roads are a MUST DRIVE when you go there. I haven't done this trip in a Vette yet, but its going to happen eventually when I can take more time off at once.

I have plenty of cool pics I can post of the Deals Gap trip if you want.

Either way, get out and drive them, best part of the trip is the DRIVE.
