Default Suede wheel/boot/shift **** (M7)

Where is the best place to purchase these three? Additionally, how difficult are they to install? Dealer will only install what they sell, the wheel at the dealer is $640.

Thanks

Find another dealer. I bought these aftermarket, took it to my dealer and they installed it no questions asked.

There are several GM parts vendors who are forum sponsors and have good prices. I have use Gene at Cultrag Performance ( http://www.cultragfactoryparts.com/ ) with good results. Others are listed in the vendor directory.

With basic mechanical skills, the shift **** and boot are fairly simple to replace. For anyone who plans to work on a C7, I would strongly recommend a tool set like this. (Under $25):

As much of the car is constructed like a snap together model, prying the pieces apart without causing damage is often the biggest challenge. The parts are tough and don't break easily, but can get scratched or otherwise damaged if you pry with a metal screwdriver. Here are directions for swapping an aftermarket shift ****. They describe how it all comes apart, other than pulling the shift boot out of the console, but that just involves careful prying:

If you haven't considered an aftermarket shift ****, you might want to. I have the pool ball type and it is an amazing improvement over the stock ****.

As for the steering wheel, I haven't pulled one on a C7 but I understand it's not that difficult. You do have to disconnect the battery first, as you will be removing the airbag and don't want an accidental deployment. I want to change the sued wheel in my Z06 for a leather one, so I will be tackling this soon. Others who have actually done this can give you more detailed advice. In the tacked threads at the top of this section is how to information that will probably be of help.

Otherwise find a dealer that will install the parts, or better yet, a dealer that will meet or come close to the parts prices that you can get online, as well as do the install.

Thanks
I did this exact swap myself. Used Trunk Monkey as my source.
Easy, takes patience.
Use a "Breaker Bar" to loosen the steering wheel nut...don't waste time with any power tools!

Good Luck

I just finished this exact job last weekend.... I purchased the OEM suede wheel on ebay for 306. and the suede boot for 89 dollars.... the steering wheel was only an issue because of the struggle to remove the bolt..... all that aside, I'de say it was a rather easy task.... purchase a small bernzomatic precision torch at Home Depot for 27.50. it will make your life much easier when removing the wheel...

With no disrespect to "snappy2u". hind site being 20/20 a small precision bernzomatic torch will get the job done... see my topic in general discussion "help" in this section of the forum about what happened when I took a breaker bar to the bolt...
