Why two honks?

Why two honks?
Maybe I am not looking deep enough but I don't find the answer to this in the owner's manual. At times, not always, when I am refueling, then get back in the car with the fob in my pocket, the horn gives off two quick honks when I shut the door, before starting the engine. It is a 2016 Stingray. This does not follow any locking of the car or setting the alarm. And it occurs when I have been right beside the car the entire refueling time, (not walking away and then coming back). Please educate me on what is going on.

Means the car is on, but there is no key inside. It's honestly kind of weird, but I guess it lets you know if you got in the car and didn't have the keys on you for whenever you get to where you're going and you're then without a way to start the car. Not sure why yours would do it with the key in the car.

I am betting that when you refuel your car, you do not always close your drivers door or if you do close the door, it is not properly latched all the way. Be sure to close your door and you should not get any chirps when getting back in the car.
You can try this at home...
Be in your car with engine running and all doors closed.
Turn off car and exit car but do not close your door.
Stay by the car like you are refueling for a couple of minutes.
Then get back in your car and close the door.....the horn will chirp three times. The car tells you the fob is in the car because the open/close door cycle has now completed and you are in the car with the fob in your pocket.
I never heard my car chirp twice.

That very well be the answer. When refueling I have possibly left the door open or not shut it completely. I will try experimenting and see if I can duplicate this behavior at home. Thanks.

Don’t know if this applies, but I made it to the gas station once without the key. I shut the car off and then I was stuck. My GF had the key in her purse. She had previously came home and left the car running for me. Luckily I was only a couple minutes away.

If your reference to a triplet is three horn beeps vs two, I offer the following: I admit that I am not overburdened with intelligence, but I absolutly can differentiate two from three. My 2016, in the above described scenario beeps it's horn two (2) times.

Mine does the 2 honks when I close the door with the fob in it or leave the car with the engine running even without the fob being left in the car.
I warm up my car every morning when it is -5 or colder and I close the door then lock it and it beeps the second that door is closed regardless if it's locked or not.
Really annoying when you purposely do this however there is some logic behind it.

Is there a second fob somewhere in the car? My 2017 Acadia does that if we have the second key fob still in the car somewhere. Discovered when we were traveling with the second fob packed in my wife’s luggage.

How did I ever get along without my horn honking, seat buzz, flashing lights, and warning decals. I really do hate these new cars no matter how fast they are. Car makers just added more frustration and noise to all our lives.

You can get a million answers for that question OP. But the best one I can think of is...because. My car does it sometimes...I mean sometimes...LOL. Best I can figure is that since they started using computers to run cars they gave up complete control AI is taking over. 3 C5's, a C6 and now the C7 and they have all had weird glitches The horn deal is just one more to add to the list.

My '14 does the three honks when I get out, usually at an ATM, leaving the door open, fob in pocket, and when I get back in the car and shut the door. Not sure why it's designed to do it. Definitely annoying.
