I took a new Stingray (LT1)to a highly rated custom shop. Had and A&A supercharger and Kooks headers put on and then Dyno tuned. Asked specifically about the transmission and if it needed any upgrade. Was told no. 2 weeks later, transmission is acting up. Oh, we need to send the module off to be tuned. There is a throttle body issue with it sticking when driven hard between 3rd and 4th in either mode they duplicated but did not fix. Picked it up last week after they had it 2 weeks. Everything supposed to be good. Same throttle body hiccup AND last night at 165 mph, it blew something! Fire out the wheel wells, oil everywhere, painted bubbled, etc. Hobbled it home at 1000RPM because any higher it you could tell there is a serious balance issue. Any ideas as to the most likely cause?
Yikes, sounds like a total engine failure. First thing I'd do, is get under the car and see where the oil came from, you might find a big *** hole in the side of the engine block.
Then, I'd start looking at new longblocks to get an idea of what kind of repair cost you'll be looking at.
You just learned that a highly rated custom shop doesn't know more about building performance sports cars than GM engineers do. You killed your car, and the warranty is gone. You'll probably have to fight it out with the shop, and my bet is they'll tell you you blew it up yourself by going 165, or that you over-rev'd it.
The faster you make it, the faster you break it...
Ouch. Sorry to hear that. The good news is that now you can go ***** to the wall and have the whole thing built for high horsepower. I'd say start with a forged crank and rods and work your way out from there.
How many rpms was the engine turning at 165 mph? Just throwing a supercharger on the engine doesn't safely let the engine rev any higher than the stock limit. Sounds like lots of power from a supercharger along with excessive revs and bottom end let loose.
Amazing it would even run enough to get you home. In fact it is amazing you didn't have a serious accident from spinning in your own oil or due to a locked up engine causing the rear wheels to slow a lot thus spinning the car.

It was not near red line. Around 5000 as the tune removed the 175 limiter

Ok, some great input. Now for the next step...Who do you guys recommend to unf*ck what I have done and why?
I just realized my post wasn't partially helpful, and snarky when it didn't need to be. Sorry for that, and sorry for what happened to your Vette...
Honestly, about your only recourse is taking it back to the builder and seeing if he will make it right. Hopefully, he is an honest guy, and will stand by his work. Sounds like the engine is toast, not to mention the damage from the fire. It's going to be expensive no matter how you look at it. Obviously, GM isn't going to warranty it with the mods, so it's all on the builder. Or on you if he refuses to do the repairs.
I wish you the best of luck, and again apologize for my first post. Good Luck and have a Merry Christmas...
It's already got all the power you could want. Of course, you'll also have to upgrade the tranny and cooling system, but all of that can be done over time.

I didnt think it was snarky. They guy that just posted "YES" now that was snarky. Thank you and Merry Christmas to you as well.
There are some top quality shops like Lingenfelter and Vengeance Racing who do first rate work and will stand behind it, that you may consider. Where are you located ?
