C7 or C6?

C7 or C6?
I will be buying a Corvette in the very near future, which will be my first one. I currently drive a 2017 Dodge Charger Scat Pack (Don't make fun!) So......here's the thing, whichever one I get, it will be modified for sure. I'd rather have an automatic over the manual, but.....I'm not opposed to it either. So a couple of things. I feel like if I get the Stingray I won't be satisfied with the power. I'd like to get as much feedback on this as possible. Do I go for a C6 ZR1 or Z06 even though they're manual? Or go for the newer C7 Z06 with the 8 speed auto? Let me know what you think, or what would do?

If money is not the issue and from the way you state your post that seems the case, clearly get a newer Z06. But, in all honesty given what you are driving and my experience with my own "new" hemis and racing much more powerful cars than any of these (standard hemis or Vettes), I'd have a hard time envisioning why one would need more than a Stingray on the street. If you are going to track the car it is a different story, of course. If not, you could get a brand new Stringray and come out at least even, but probably ahead. I know I did!!! All the best, in any event!

Actually.......I was in the market for a Hellcat but every single one was sold out or they wanted Z06 pricing for it which I laughed in their faces for that one. Which is why I settled for the Scat Pack. So far I've had 2 Dodge vehicles but no more. So it came down to a Corvette or Camaro ZL1 and I really much rather have the Vette than anything. I like both the C6 and C7 but like I said I am going to modify it to well over 800rwhp, I do like the fact the C6 is lighter. But I'm still on the fence.

2022 C8 of the Year Finalist - Modified
2022 C7 of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
Power differences aside, if the interior (materials, quality, design, bells/whistles) of a vehicle is of any importance to you, make sure you try out both a C6 and C7 for comparison before you make your decision. The interior of the C7 is a significant improvement (IMO) over the C6.

Just a few weeks ago, I raced a Charger SRT392 (I believe the same engine as your R/T), he only took me by about a car's length. I drive a stock C5. Much less hp, but much lighter too.
If you have the funds, by all means get a Z06. It's a performance bargain.

If you are buying to modify, I say go with a C6 Z06. The LS7 is one BA engine with it's 7.0 liters of displacement. With just heads and cam you can get over 600 horsepower, and if you add a blower (with supporting mods), you can run 800 to 900 horsepower. I know a guy in a local Corvette club who was running a little over 1000 horsepower in his 2007 Z06.
One thing to consider though is that a low mileage C6 Z06 in "like new" condition is going to run about $45,000.00. Add on the cost to mod the car between engine work, and supporting mods like chassis strengthening and transmission work, you might spend around $30,000.00. This puts you in C7 Z06 price territory.
If you go with a C7 Z06, you get an automatic transmission and a factory warranty (well, until you start modding the car anyhow). Plus the C7 is much nicer than the C6. Drive one of each and you'll recognize the difference immediately.

I have driven one. A C6 Z06. Much quicker than my Scat Pack. I’ve heard there are issues with the LS7 which kinda made me rethink things. I am leaning more towards the C7 just because I like the way it looks. To be honest though they both look nice to me. I feel like no matter what I get it will be modified. Whatever it is it won’t be new. It will be used so wherever I save money will be added to the modding funds.
Some have ave told me to go with a Stingray or Grand Sport and add a blower to it but I’m not trying to get rid of the factory warranty on it if it were the C7. Obviously the C6 wouldn’t have it. Also is the 6 speed manual pretty strong in the C6? And I also heard the C7 Z06 has heatsink issues?

Hellcats are ten grand off new these days...your a dodge guy...get the hellcat...
You don't want a sports car...you want a drag machine...
Otherwise pick up some guys supercharged c6 for what his car without the mods would be worth...
20 grand and your done and automatics are all over the place and they often command slightly lower prices...(same for supercharged c6 s)
You don't want to shift a manual so forget about the c6 z06 or c6 zr1...
Spend 20 grand and pick up some guys c6 supercharged beast...
Or buy the hellcats...they are all over the place brand new with an easy ten grand off ...especially since now the Demon is the dodge top dog...
Wide body challenger hellcats cool but less incentives on the latest and greatest..
Stick to the narrow body automatic with supercharger...
I'd say slap a supercharger on your scat pack but I think busting the pcm codes a bitch with dodges....or so I've heard..
The hellcat supercharger whine is bad ***!
Have fun

If money is no object go with the C7, Z06. Insanely fast already. In fact the pricing right now is crazy low with up to 24% off sticker on new 2017's.
I've owned C6 Z06's and have a 17 Z06. Really no comparison, go with the C7's.

Since you're going to be modding the car and likely won't be able to use the factory warranty, get a 14 or 15 C7. The '14 has the 6-speed auto like in the C6. With the complaints the A8 is having, if you want an auto, I'd go this route.
Drop a blower (either centri or roots) cam and meth on the C7 and you are in the 600-650 HP range. You won't get much more than that out of the factory fuel system.
P.S. The 18/19 wheel combo on the base C7 provides more tire choices than the 19/20 on the Grand Sport and Z06. Esp. if you drag and need tire with more sidewall.

Beastincarnate, A few critical factors you need to research.
1. You mentioned considering a C6 Z06. Do you know about the motors grenading due to head issues? If not you need to do some serious homework. BTW, this problem does NOT extend to the C6 ZR1, only the C6 Z06.
2. You mentioned an auto tranny. If you go for a C7, I'd go for a 2014 with the A6 because you're going to mod the car thereby voiding any warranty. If you go for a newer c7 with an A8, be aware there have been a few issues with them (about 1 or 2%) having TC issues. I'd have no problem owning an A8 if it still had the warranty which GM has supported, but they won't honor it once you mod the Corvette. Note that the C7 Z06 appears to have a much lower TC incidence rate.
If it were me, I'd go for a new or used C7 Z06 still under warranty and don't mod it.
For what its worth, I demo'd a C6 ZR1 and passed for a C7 Z51 M7.

C7 Z06 with the M7 the no lift shift feature makes it a real beast for racing against the paddle boys.

Looked hard at modifying my previous C6 (non-Z). Wound up with a great price on a C7 Z06 and the differences are beyond just the obvious. Sure, the interior and looks jump out but the car just works much better- It is a better overall package that really is more than just the sum of its parts.
With that, you're looking to modify and modifications will kill a big advantage the C7 may offer- the warranty. Taking that into account, the C6 is a solid platform that has enormous performance support. From the C6 options you listed I'd spend my money on the C6 ZR1.
Given all options, I personally would look much harder at a C6 Grand Sport and build on that. More (numerically speaking) out there, the LS3 is rock solid and has the dry-sump without the head issues of the LS7. A Magnuson Heartbeat based LS3, properly and professionally built will embarrass a stock ZR1 and something of a sleeper in the GS. The other advantage to the C6 GS is a lot of folks bought them to weekend cruise (looks of the Z06 without the HP) them so many are in pristine (unmolested) condition and more readily available.
Good luck with your search!
