I have had a custom painted hood liner in my Stingray for over three years with zero staining issues. When I wash my car, I do not rinse with water that is pressurized in any way. I wet the hood by letting water from the hose run over it, gently wash with a soft soapy mitt, then let the water run gently over the hood again to rinse.
Well mine does this too. I’m still thinking it’s a seeling issue between the hood piece and the piece on the engine compartment. Really wanting to get my hoodliner painted but not until I figure this out. Surprised nobody seems to have had this problem and figured out how to correct it.
I am on my 2nd C7 hoodliner . I used ragtop cleaner & a brush on the first which cleaned the spots but shredded the cheap liner, Got a new one and sprayed tons of fabric protectent on the affected area - still have problem. Clear water and sponge not effective. Am thinking I need a spray over liner which will harden and seal the fabric so it can be washed easily with cleaner.
the stains are usually soap in the liner. Spraying with hot water or a light pressure washer will get it out.
Thanks a ton. I've been annoyed by the "stains" on mine the entire time I've had my vette. Took a pressure washer to them this weekend, cleaned right up. I drive a lot, and wash it at least once a week, so there was a ton of soap in there. Worked like charm.
I pressure wash my C7 before and after using a foam cannon. I try not to pressure wash near the vent and let the water roll over it to rinse. I raise my hood after washing to dry the seams and while I have the hood open I take a microfiber towel and wipe the hood liner down where water or soap may have entered. This works well for me. If you let it dry and see a stain, you can take upholstery cleaner(3m, Turtle Wax) and clean it off. This also works well.
I never had an issues as I always lift the hood and dry the engine bay after washing, but I bet Scotchgard, or a similar product, would minimize staining... or at least make it easier to clean
