If your car doesn't have built in navigation, you have only two options.
Option 1) Use the OnStar nav system
Option 2) Add the nav system to your car. This is relatively easy to do. You need to purchase an HMI that you can plug in and replace the HMI that doesn't have the nav. The system is around $500 and comes with a GPS antenna that you locate in the dash next to the speaker.

Some people prefer a solution that doesn't make the inside of their car look like it came from Enterprise or Hertz.
Don't know about you but I don't think my car looks like it came from Enterprise or Hertz if I simply hook up my phone to a mount and run things on it. It looks like my car with my phone in it! Actually I have a 16 and I run AA.
The HMI update gives you factory navigation to the nav screen and the HUD. Using a phone is possible but doesn't give the look and feel of the OEM nav system.

Yeah the look and feel of AA is better than that factory nav but turn by turn in the HUD is missing (because of Chevy).
