Default Picking up my C7 tomorrow. Question...

Hi all,

Picking up my 2015 Stingray tomorrow ( 12k on the clock ) and I want to know how the transmission should feel when it shifts.

I know how hard that is to actually answer..... but maybe someone could tell me if it should be smooth as silk or clunks a tad.

Before I buy it I am going to test it. How should a properly functioning 8 speed feel under just around town driving?

How should it feel under hard acceleration?

My current 2010 Camaro shifts fast and you don't feel it hardly at all. Dare I say buttery feeling.

What do you guys feel when yours shifts?

The more answers the better please.

Woody.

I have a manual transmission, but I think the automatic actually adjusts to your driving style as you drive, so there may not be a definite feel until the car has been driven for awhile.
From what I have read, you will know if it messes up

Ok thx.

I am running up to Orlando to get it so I have a 2.5 hour drive back to the ranch to get to know it. Should get some quality "alone time"

Woody, my experience with the A8 (8K miles on mine) is that they still don't change gears fast enough (my opinion only here), but they are better than the C6 A6. Mine still has a strange first gear change of the morning (which is normal), and then all is well. They do have adaptive learning, and will change to fit your style of driving. But, don't look for a great change from what you have now, and it will take as much as 3K miles at that. I may be mistaken, but someone will correct me if I'm wrong, you may be able to reset the tranny buy unhooking the positive battery cable for a short period of time. But, if it were me I wouldn't do that. Just enjoy the car, and I hope you get smiles to the miles. Congratulations, and post some pics when you get that baby home.

BTW, Tex is right. You'll know if something is wrong.

Just drive it...

If you notice a problem, you still have 88K miles of drive train warranty.
I am sure you will love the drive.

I have 46K on mine. I had the ATF replacement and filter at 43K and the car has been fine since.

If something is wrong with the trans then its virtually certain the check engine light will be on.

Mine felt a little clunky to start with especially at low speeds, but now I’m at 5000 miles and it feels smooth, so it’s either the adaptive learning or I got used to it

Question, what is all this A8 tuning about? I saw a post yesterday that claimed to tune the A8.

My advice is don't mess with it unless you are building a track car.
The A8 means 8 speed automatic.
The tuning means changing the PCM programming in an effort to improve performance.
Improve performance can mean many things. Including (but not limited to) faster shifting, different maps for pressure controls, different shift points relative to rpm and load and so on ....
Its very important to remember the specific use for the car when considering what "improved performance" means. An example would be the guy that just wants to drive his car on the street may not be improving anything by raising shifts points and or increasing line pressure before shifts occur.

Excellent, thank you for a well thought out answer

Oh yeah ...
One more thing, you will void the powertrain warranty.

Should be smooth. If it feels clunky while driving or just a hard shift when starting the car after it has been sitting for a while each day...it can be a minor software adjustment made at the dealer all the way up to something needing to be replaced.

Well I had the TC replaced under warranty! Nice experience actually. Dropped it off. Nice service manager. Offered rental once they verified it was what I thought.

They had it done in a day and I didn't even need a rental. Found a bug greasy thumb print on my door but that is a non-issue. I thought it was funny because they made a point of saying they washed it. It was perfectly clean and flawless when I gave it to them and it didn't rain.

No shudder. Still a bit rough going though the gears. Not silky smooth like the camaro at all. Only had it for 300 miles and 200 of that was getting it home. I will bring it back if I think its an issue.

Thanks to everyone for your comments. I am a first time vette owner and very happy to get this done under warranty.

Woody.

It shifts smooth...

Too smooth in my opinion...

Under harder acceleration it shifts well harder.

No clunk at all.

2016 Z51 shifts really smoothly with a rough up-shift once in awhile. 4400 miles
