Is there anything different about the A8 transmission in a Z06 vs a regular base Stingray or the Z51 or GS versions? Seems you don’t read much about the torque converter issues in them. Was wondering why.
The Z06 RARELY goes into V4 mode even when left in full auto without a Range module plugged in. The increased air drag and lower compression ratio of the LT-4 equipped Z06 reduce the operating conditions when V4 mode will engage. V4 mode "eats" torque converter clutches in the A8 because of its constant on/off/on modulation of the clutch to reduce the transmission of engine vibration to the rest of the car when only operating on 4 cylinders.
The Z06 also has a carbon fiber (instead of steel) torque tube assembly and the steel tube in other models further absorbs V4 mode vibration and the Z06 lacks the additional AFM exhaust sound control valves used to make the engine sound "less horrible" when running on 4 cylinders and I expect this caused GM to program the Z06 to be less aggressive about going into V4 mode. Those AFM sound valves don't like hot exhaust gases.
But my 2016 Z06 is always either in manual mode or has a Range module plugged it to reduce rarely to never
