Default Tire question

Just out of curiosity can run flats be switched to conventional tires without the low profile flat looking run flat tires? Do conventional fit to a C7 design would you need smaller rims. TIA

They will be exactly the same its just that sidewalls arent as stiff as with the runflats every measurement is the same

The "conventional" tires, are the same dimensions as the ZP run flats. Did you think they were different sized??

Run normal pressures and they will look the same.

Get a flat and all bets are off.

I don't think my question was understood. I like the looks of sidewalls that don't have low profile like my older sports car. Is that doable?

That is why stated if need to go too smaller rims not sure how the tires would fit in the wheel well area. For example could you use wide tires like on a 74 vette? I guess also would effect speedo.

Not likely . . . "tall sidewalls" don't come in 19-20" sizes. You'd have to purchase a set of smaller diameter wheels, but then you'd have to worry about finding a set that would fit over the rather large C7 brakes calipers.

Go to a Discount Tire store, or it's equivalent tire store near you and ask away. When you start messing with the tire height on a low profile, low fender opening as the C7 has, you're bound to run into trouble. Esp. if you think you want a taller profile tire. Can you do it? Sure. Should you? Doubtful.

The speedo and odo should read the same as OEM as long as the resulting diameter is the same. Whether the (smaller) rim can handle the brakes is another issue.

eta: don't you love when you get several answers virtually identical w/I a minute or two?

^^^^ After messing with various cars and tires/wheels for over 50 years, experience, as well as trial AND ERROR, count for something!

Yep, thought that was what you were asking. You can probably get more like a '74 look if that is what you are wanting for whatever reason! In fact wider rims can be used on "skinny tires" (within reason) and it actually improves handling! Go to Tirerack and check out tires of the same diameter but higher profile. Should find some.

Quick look and I found a 235/45/19 for the rear that has a diameter of 27.3 which is close enough to the OEM 26.7 OD 285/35/19 OEM's! 285-235 = 50 mm = ~ 2inch narrower section width.
