Default 29 degrees and I did not die!

some one said not to drive below 40 degrees F because the tires will crack, or not stick to the road. i had an emergency run to NC from
Fla for the week to bury my dad. one morning, my car was totally iced over and 29 degrees showing on the dash. i had no choice but to drive it those 15 miles from the hotel. i drove easy and took precautions. dodged the bullet i guess. but man can that 1500 rpm warble sing on those NC country roads and...my gas mileage has gone to crap. i always got 32mpg on that 540 mile ride home. 26/27 was all for this trip. the very good news:; no performance rewards!

Sorry for the loss of your father.

The cold temp crack warning from Michelin is 20 degrees (F), not 40. It also states that the cracks can occur if the vehicle is moved at below 20 degrees, not by just sitting at 20 degrees (although they also recommend against that). There is also a warning that the tires lose a significant amount of their grip below 40 degrees (they actually start losing grip before that).

Very sorry about your dad!

On the tire not however I drove my c7 on stock tires all last winter in super frigid temps and never had a problem with them. They may not have had much traction but they never cracked or showed adverse signs of wear.
