Default 2015 GM issue help

Greetings forum.

This is my first post in this sub-forum. As you may tell by my screen name, I have a '68 Resto-mod. I did a build thread here in the C3 forum. Car came out amazing. Its all Z06 where I could (within reason).

To my point. I also have a 2015 Z51 2LT, night race blue Vette. It was involved in a front end collision on November 15. Guy pulls out in front of my wife and I in a BMW X5 and stops. His fault, his ticket, I digress.

The accident actually happen in front of Vans Chevrolet in North Scottsdale. So, I simply drove it to their on lot body shop, made sense at the time.

Communication was fine, other drivers insurance company was cooperative, all is good. Estimate comes in (19K). Approvals come, we are good.

Couple weeks go by I am informed that there is a B/O for a required part(s). The rails, which I guess are required to mount fenders and core support to the frame are B/O'd, both of em. I check periodically, nothing.

Few weeks ago, I began to question the whole goat rope, the body shop manager tells me to open a case with GM, which I have. I speak today with the GM case manager for the third time. She informed me there is no parts available, for the foreseeable future. I ask her why can't they go take them off the assembly line, since they are still producing Vettes and the part is the same. (I was told this). She said, no can do.

I have spoken to both insurance companies, his and mine. My agent tells me to push to have the car totaled, since GM cannot supply the parts to fix this car. His insurance company is telling me that is out of the question.

So, as the guy without a car, which cannot be fixed, what are my options?

I spoke to a lawyer that does work for my company, he said writing a letter without the backbone to actually sue GM isn't wise.

Any help out there?

We went through this last year with water pumps "unavailable".

This long thread documents results obtained by writing directly to Mary Barra.

Read post 123 first then you can go back through the beginning and get the contact info:

If you are going through your insurance .... Tell them to total it and sue the other insurance company. I am not sure why you are even in contact with the other insurance company unless you decided to handle it yourself.

Ask your insurance agent to make you whole again...

Thanks Rick. I got marry.barra@gm.com from the thread. I'm assuming it was actually mary.barra@gm.com based on reading the thread. I couldn't find it listed anywhere else in there.

I will email her in the morning. I will keep this thread up to speed.

I also gather that the lemon law is applicable? I have a 2013 Raptor that was one day from being lemoned out. I wanted the truck so I was working with Ford on it. They flew a guy in from the Raptor line to look at the electrical issue it was having.

Thanks,

Steve

I have been talking to him, actually did about two hours ago. He is willing to handle it, but insurance being what it is, they will pay for repairs/or total it and then go after his insurance co. It will result in higher rates for me if they incur abnormal cost. At least that is what I'm being told.

I think the email address in the linked thread may pay dividends.

And, the only reason I have been in contact with his insurance company is the long delay in parts. They have actually been rather cooperative, to this point.

Beautiful job on the resto, and good luck on resolving the issues with your C7. Hopefully bumping your situation up the command channel will have some positive results.

In another thread, a member's repair is being stalled while waiting for a different backordered part. You would think if GM can sell these cars, they would provide parts after a reasonable amount of time. Good luck.

I received a phone call from the Executive Customer Assistance Team today. She assured me my case was being expedited. I was promised a return call and update on Tuesday.

We will see, so far so good. She introduced herself as responding on behalf of Mary Barra. So it seems these emails get some attention.

Cool resto-mod! I would push to have it totaled although by looking at the pictures it doesn't look like $19K damage. I hope the body shop is compensating you with a free rental driver while your Corvette is in the shop. It's hard to believe you can't buy parts for a C-7 Corvette but I do believe you. The C-7's have been out since 2014 and I would think there should be lots of new parts to be had. Good luck!

"I have spoken to both insurance companies, his and mine. My agent tells me to push to have the car totaled, since GM cannot supply the parts to fix this car. His insurance company is telling me that is out of the question."

NASTYC7 is right. Call BS on the other company's "out of the question" statement.

You don't have any kind of agreement/contract with the at-fault driver's insurance company, so what they claim is their 'standard' and what they can or cannot pay for means absolutely jack in this instance. A lot of people fall for this line of garbage from the other party's insurance company, but it simply is a tactic they use to discourage claims and save them money. Most of the time, it works and people walk away thinking, "well, I guess they can't do that".

If your own company won't total it and subrogate the claim, tell the at-fault driver's insurance company you'll see them in court, and to tell their client to expect papers immediately.

No, lemon law does not apply to accident repair. Lemon laws apply to WARRANTY repairs.

Really not interested in a rental. The Vette is a weekend driver and we don't need it for daily transportation. GM asked today what my payments were, I think they would have compensated me had I requested. The car is paid for. I don't want to punish the insurance company and take a rental "just because" I simply want my car back.

They did offer the rental however.

When my Raptor was in for extended warranty repairs, Ford made a payment for me. However, I wasn't offered a loaner. Ford told me I didn't buy an extended warranty so no loaner. Chicken S**T I say. The dealer said they wouldn't give me a loaner because they would have to pay for it. The truck had 2,200 miles on it.

Thats OK, A blue oval won't fit in my garage in the future.

Don't think so. I spoke at length to the body shop manager. He said they have plugged it into all the "network" junk yards. I can't fathom this. Front end damage has got to be the primary damaged place on these cars. I'n the only guy in America waiting for this stuff to become available? BS.

Well sounds like it is feasible then, they just can't find it. I doubt they tried very hard, if you're that motivated maybe try making some calls on your own to see what you can find. Shitty situation, best of luck to you! Let us know how it turns out.

Wow, that's amazing. You'd think a corporation with the resources, reach and tech available could figure this out. This is totally amature hour.

One of the sales guys at the dealership has been hounding me to buy a new Vette. I told him, "Lets get this one fixed, before I wind up with two un-drivable cars"
