Default Auto Seat Memory and Easy Exit

I had a 2014 C7, and it used to be a big source of complaints on this forum that the seat returned from the exit position to the saved driving position as soon as one opened the door. Of course, that made little sense because if one wants extra room to exit, it would certainly be nice to have the same amount of extra room to enter.

It appears GM does listen. My new 18 now only returns to the driving position when one hits the start button. I don't know when this changed, but it's nice.

I've noticed a number of other incremental improvements over my 14 in the electronics in particular. The menus are better and one has many more choices of displays and customization.

There was a software update available on 2014's that added AT IGNITION ON as a choice of when to apply saved seat position. You had to ask for the update.

Yeah, I suspected as much. However, it wasn't important enough for me to take to a dealer for, as a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" person.

Yep that "optional software" as GM called it could be installed by a dealer sometime late 2104 and then it was included in 2016's, and after. They also eliminated what I refereed to as the "Superman Option," which would return you seat to the driving position as soon as you opened the door! Had to be faster than a speeding bullet to use it!

I had learned an optional two hand method by the time the software was offered so never had it installed. I was hoping for the C6 solution, which was tape your recall number once, but that never happened. I would simultaneously buckle my belt with my right had and use a finger on my left to hold in my #1 seat button!

My two handed option was a bit faster but I use the "push the start button twice method" with the Grand Sport. I buckle my belt with my right hand, then push the start button, only to have to press it again when the clutch is depressed to start the car. The "push the start button twice" is a bit of a waste that Fred Taylor would not approve- but it works!

You wouldn't happen to know what, if any, it costs for a dealer to apply this update to '14s? Is there a TSB or something one needs to mention to the dealer to apply the update?

^^^

It was free when introduced. As I recall, after a number of us complained, someone who knew Tadge asked and this option was finally put in. Just not what some of us where hoping it would be the simple C6 solution, (at least for my 2008 and after) that worked fine.

Default Service document PI1245

Here's the latest reference I've seen. Service needs to reference document #PI1245, mentioned under "Auto Memory Recall / Manual Transmission" near the bottom of the linked document below. It was a free software update when it came out in 2014. Had it done when I was in for a free oil change. They may charge an hour labor now...

This is kind of weird. I have a 2014 delivered at the end of May and it always had the "at ignition" choice.

Mine was built April 15, 2014 VIN 22xxx. Must have been one of many running changes / bug fixes / updates during the 2014 model year.

Thanks for that, will try around my area and see if I can find someone to do it. I don't have that on at ignition option for mine. Will probably try to see if they can bundle it in for free if I pay the $350 for the GM mag ride update

As you say, could have been a running change and the software option update came later, as I recall later in 2014. Mine was a September 2013 build.
I recall posting these pics well into 2014 (when I was also complaining about the "Magic Memory Wire Activated Vent" not allowing me to latch the hatch without my door open! Was accused of having a limp wrist (semi-automatic pistol reference NOT sexual inference! Or just not strong enough as some posted hatch frame cracking!) Finally vindicated when in 2016 they reverted to what worked fine in my 2016, a motorized pull-down!

My C6 memory seats worked well and were no problem, i.e. a momentary press of the desired seat memory and the seat went there without having to hold it in. Was convinced GM outsourced the software in the M7 C7 to someone who did not own or drive a car!

The seat software problem was exacerbated by this silly option of the seat returning to the position of the FOB in your pocket "As Soon As You Opened The Door!" What was worse, is the explanation on how to set seat recall options made this sound like how you should set it and folks were complaining bitterly! As I recall to not select that option had to NOT do what appeared intuitively correct from the words in the owner's Manual!

Seems once I adjust the seat I leave it. I had this feature on a few cars but never used it. With a 32 inch waist I guess you don't need it.
I get in and out with no seat adjustment over I would guess 10,000 times.

It is not waist size or weight, but height that is the issue. The instructors at Spring Mountain have you move the seat closer and more upright than "cruiser" position. So - I need to push the seat back and raise the wheel to get in and out. We also had to find just the right seat position so that my helmet was not against the roof.

I had that problem with my '14 and now with my '18 as long as I apply the EBrake the seat will move back when I open the door and will move up if I press the start button without pushing in the clutch.

Supervised vs. unsupervised movement kind of explained in the document link in Post #7.

Exactly, as a skinny, tall person, it's height and long legs that make it easier to get in and out with a stored exit position of the seat as far back as possible. The footwell is very deep as in most low to the ground sports cars, so it helps to have the seat back to free the legs.
