For reference, I sent 4 wheels @ 33 pounds ea from Wis to Houston via UPS and it cost me $250 all said and done. These were GS/Z06 size.
Yep, expensive. So how do TireRack and others ship mounted tires/wheels for much less? Frustrating for a small business as the large companies get ~75% discounts!
In most cases I ship products to large companies using their UPS, FedEx or DHL number! I don't have to bill freight and they get much lower cost!

yep plus they have multiple warehouses and drop ship locations, often they can offer cheap or free shipping because they drop ship to you, if you would buy at a tire shop those tires would have to be shipped there to, so they save shipping cost off shipping to store to directly to,you.
I don't know about tire rack but I live 45 min from summit racing and they had several ups and fed ex semi trailers on the lot, they do their own loading and rough sort then the semi takes the trailer to the main dispatch so they get a he'll of a discount doing that.

Yep some may have UPS etc trailers they fill but in my former life the UPS driver came to our facility similar to when they pick-up at my part time business and we were getting ~70% discounts.
It's fine when things are done by the company to cut the shippers costs and picking up many orders is a cost reduction. But when we bring the product to a FedEx dispatching facility with a computer generated label on the box we do not "earn" any significant discount!
**********************I can no longer recommend Busfreighter*************
tried to get a set of rims sent at 2 different stations, what a nightmare...
One the lady would not except them because it would interrupt her 4 hour lunch, and required us to put them on the bus because they were to heavy.. The other station was closed when they said it would be open all day...
