Improving C7 Grandsport initial torque
I used to have a C5 with a CAI, tune, and 3200RPM stall converter.
I wouldn't say those mods dramatically improved the power of my C5, but they really improved overall responsiveness.
One of the things that I liked about my C5 is that it would always just hit you with a wave of torque off the line or at the start of a pull. Now granted the car would start to run out of steam a little bit at 4500, but it always made for an exciting ride.
I love my 2017 A8 Grandsport to death but one of the things that confuses me a bit is the fact that the car never really responds with a lot of torque below 3000rpm or so. Now granted the car pulls way harder than my C5 later on down the RPM band and it is ultimately faster, but I always feel like it's missing a little "umph" off the line.
Any thoughts on how to best remedy this?
So far my best option has been putting the car into manual mode and you'll feel it pull quite hard in gears 1-4 so to me power is there. But in auto mode when you give the car enough throttle for it to downshift, it sort of skips over the torque that should be there from 2,000-3,5000rpm and you really only start to feel the tail end of the torque pull at 4,000rpm.
I've read about the vitese controller, but I'm a little hesitant to use one (am honestly afraid of it bugging out one day and making for a really scary journey somewhere). Any other thoughts on how to best remedy?
